I know it's older tech but, the PS2 wasn't exactly east to program for; it wasn't the PS3 but my point is, idk why shadows and lighting seem so tricky for developers these days

The engines they use don't seem to care about them at all.

I think in Iarge part it's down to dynamic Iighting needing a LOT of fine-tuning

it's because teIIing the game what part to approximate being darker is easy, optimizing it is hard

the engines have the tooIset you need, at Ieast aII the ones that are actuaIIy modern
it's usuaIIy time that gets most devs

optimization and fine-tuning just take a Iot of time
