I think Clair Obscure is a JRPG because it follows japanese game design philosophies. For me the J is defined regarding philosophy and not origin of the country

But I also think putting a "j" in front of it is dumb as firetruck why can't we just call them RPGs

I personally think that gatekeeping in game development is also an issue. Like in the west japanese games get called "outdated" which is firetrucking bullshit because they follow just a different game design philosophy. And western game devs try to force their definition of "video game" on other developers
