Discussion on Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy

Posted

By Nomura(producer) and Takashi(planning director).

Laguna, The FFVIII hero was actually supposed to have appeared in Kingdom Heats Birth by Sleep, Nomura revealed. They'd even partially prepared a scenario where Laguna appears as the head of Mirage Arena. In the end, they decided that if they were to have a new character from FFVIII in Duodecim it would end up being Laguna, so they left him out of BbS. :(

This game may come with PSP hardware bundle. Square Enix has yet to provide a look at the special PSP system, but Nomura revealed to the magazine that it will have a Yoshitaka Amano illustration showing Chaos and Cosmos. The system will be pearl white, with the side frame being matte black.

More characters are on the way for the game. While there was no mention of the Jump trailer's hints at Yuna, Nomura said that the remaining character reveals will all come from the Final Fantasy games that were released on the Super Famicom/SNES and beyond.

The past characters aren't all that's returning for Duodecim. Nomura revealed that the original's story will also be included. Once you clear Duodecim's story, you'll be able to unlock this. It's being fully remade to go along with Duodecim's new story mode, which is based off a 3D map system. The plot is the same, but you'll find more 2D events allowing you to explore the story deeper.

With two full stories, it may seem like Duodecim is going to offer a lot of play time. This is the case. Takahashi said to expect 15 hours of play time for Duodecim's story. Add in the original's story, and the total shoots up to 60 hours. O_o

Nomura promised a surprise for the game at the January 18th 1st Production Department Premier event. :D

You know, I just wish they would have added Vincent and Auron. They are really awesome FF characters and would work so well with them working with Cosmos. It would be nice to see them one last time in another FF game at least. Or at least have Vivi in 012. And they had BETTER have Yuna in 012. SE better make that happen.

@Reversal, well I guess vaan is kinda like Luigi. A out-cast character who will never be seen as a main and important character. As for having more vilkians in Chaos side, I agree to that. There are way more heroes than there are villians. I think it would be nice to see Genesis again. After all, he's only been in just one FF game, so I think 012 would fit him well.

^ Yuna's already been officially confirmed. Don't remember who confirmed her, but it was official.

So I was thinking about all this... They mentioned in the original Dissidia that the Cosmos side lost the previous war, which would be the war in Duodecim, right? I really don't remember, but if they did, and they currently outnumber the Chaos side so significantly, then that must be one epic turn of events.

Looking forward to seeing Sephiroth off himself though >:3

summoning magical creatures[/b], casting elemental spells, or using weapons (axes, swords, and boomerangs) to defeat the enemy. Players can also fight an assortment of knights, witches, demons, and warriors in one-on-one combat. Some duels end with a slow-motion attack sequence called the "final blow," which zooms in on the defeated character during the final moments of battle. Female characters are occasionally depicted with very little clothing, revealing partially exposed breasts and buttocks. Some expletives (e.g., "bastard," "hell," and "damn") appear in the dialogue.

^ The rating for the original Dissidia, so I'd take it with a grain of salt for now. I hope it really is Summoner Yuna though.

Pretty nice design. Feels a bit cluttered though, but I guess it doesn't matter considering your hands will be covering most of the artwork anyways.

Looks so awesome wish I could get a psp...

And now Yuna has been officially revealed. :D

Hey Nomura, remember when you said you'd include more characters from post-SNES era FFs? Still waiting for some that aren't so predictable...

Aw you beat me to it!! Yuna looks like shes gonna be serious fun to play as

Quests, not stories. But that's probably what you meant and I'm just being picky about it :P

Im seriously hopping Hedy Burres will return to voice Yuna!!!

Gabranth's 3rd costume is Basch, which is totally awesome/kinda confusing.I don't think Vaan really fit into the story enough to merit Dissida-dom. I think they should've added Ashe and Vayne.

Oh really? That's good then. Though I really want him to be his own character, not a costume.

(My apologies for not knowing that. As much as I wish I did, I don't have the game. D= )

I have to agree with you on Vaan. He wasn't big enough in the plot of FFXII. He didn't even have a nemesis.

And Ashe and Vayne would have been a good idea as well.

She voiced her in X, X-2, and KH2, so I don't see why they wouldn't bring her back for Duodecim.

Nomura admitted that this time around, they're choosing based primarily on what the Japanese audience thinks is popular. And apparently Vaan is very popular in Japan. o.o

I'm hoping they also think Delita or Wiegraf is popular. I'd say Ramza, but the game has enough heroes. It makes me wonder, how the hell does Cosmos lose this war when she has almost twice the amount of warriors than Chaos?

Not to mention that Vaan has a reason to hate Gabranth while Ashe doesn't. Gabranth killed Reks, and that was Vaan's motivation for half of FFXII. Ashe just wanted to rebuild Dalmasca and Gabranth wouldn't be the obstacle there

Some updates from Andriasang.com

Online retailer Gamestar has let slip some exciting new details about Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy in a new listing.

According to the retailer, the PSP sequel will add some tournament-style features. Multiple players will be able to take part in these, and those who aren't fighting will be able to view the current fight on their PSP.

Other features mentioned in the listing include:

The game will have improved wireless support. In addition to exchanging friend cards with other players, you'll be able to create and exchange original quests.

It was previously revealed that the story of the original Dissidia will be included in Duodecim and will be playable with Duodecim's new battle system. To access this, you'll need to clear Duodecim's story mode. The original's story has been updated with new short scenarios.

The previously announced RPG Mode will take you through a large world, with varying terrain, including snow fields, deserts and swamps with rainfall. As you advance in RPG Mode, you'll be able to form parties with your preferred characters.

Those who have the original Dissidia will see some bonuses. Importing your data from the original will allow you to carry your character level over. You'll also receive an accessory.

With Gamestar revealing all these features this week, let's hope we get some specifics in next week's batch of magazines, or at the very least at Square Enix's premier event on the 18th.

^ I've heard about that. The quest thing sounds pretty interesting. I admit though, I have kind of a beef with SE for including the original Dissidia in here, especially considering they've said the original story will take up most of the play time. I'm not sure how that will work out, but personally, I'd want the most out of the new game rather than the old. I'll just wait and see how that'll work out.

Is he? Don't really see why though. It's not that I don't like him; it's just, as I said, it doesn't seem like he's such a huge character.

That last part reminds me on how much more I have to learn about FF, lol.

Need to get more of those games. xD

True. I nearly forgot about that. (Man I miss that game.) So that makes Vaan somewhat a good match.

I wish it was Minwu, but that would mean yet another character for Team Cosmos :( If there was another character for FFII, I'd rather it be Leon. I mean, there are, what, 17 for Cosmos, and 9 for Chaos right now?

18 for Cosmos, 10 for Chaos, Chaos has the main villain for FFI - FFIX, plus Gabranth so far (Shantotto and Gabranth actually play a part in Duodecim, not just secret characters) But you have to wonder, if Team Cosmos lost in Duodecim, that means Shantotto actually lost a match, how could this happen?

I hope the give Firion a more air-based playstyle this time, he was my best character, but I could never hit Zidane's or Kuja's....... Yuna's officially a summoner :D She can summon Ixion and Bahamut, but I won't be completely happy until I see my Celes in some part of Dissidia (Celes Chere from FFVI, the total awesomeness of the game IMO) And on Tuesday there's gonna be a conference with SE, so we can get more info on various SE games there e.g. KH3D and Dissidia Duodecim

Team Cosmos: WoL, Firion, Onion Knight, Cecil, Kain, Bartz, Cloud(?), Tifa, Squall, Laguna, Zidane, Tidus(?), Jecht, Yuna, Shantotto, Vaan, Lightning

Team Chaos: Garland, Emperor, CoD, Golbez, Exdeath, Terra, Kefka, Sephiroth, Ultimecia, Kuja(?), Gabranth

Question marks are next to Cloud and Tidus because they've strangely been absent from every Team Cosmos group picture so far. With the game coming out in less than 2 months, it just makes you wonder... I guess the pics aren't final? There's one next to Kuja as well since the trailers have been implying he hasn't fully been on the Chaos side, if he's there at all. Like the original Dissidia said, Jecht and Terra have switched sides of course. But anyways,

I know SE are great for returning VA except for Gabranth which i believe had an understandable reason but it has been nearly 5 years since the last time she played Yuna and even then it was 3 cutscenes she had to share, but James Arnold Taylor & Gregg Berger did come back after pretty much the same time so i can just hope

Team Cosmos: WoL, Firion, Onion Knight, Cecil, Kain, Bartz, Cloud(?), Tifa, Squall, Laguna, Zidane, Tidus(?), Jecht, Yuna, Shantotto, Vaan, Lightning

Team Chaos: Garland, Emperor, CoD, Golbez, Exdeath, Terra, Kefka, Sephiroth, Ultimecia, Kuja(?), Gabranth

Added Terra is bold, we never got told she was a bad guy in Duodecim, when Kefka said she used to be a bad guy, he was implying Final Fantasy 6, where Terra was mind controlled until an Esper communicated with her, breaking the mind control, so she is still likely to be a good guy

Awesome picture, I like how Yuna's there too, but the original Dissidia did not say Terra was a bad guy in Duodecim, it was talking about how Kefka managed to control Terra in FF6, and how she was able to kill lots of people with her magical powers, which is why Kefka calls her "Destruction Incarnate"

So basically it's Cosmos Side; WoL, Firion, OK, Cecil, Kain, Bartz, Terra(?), Cloud(?), Tifa, Squall, Laguna, Zidane, Tidus(?), Jecht(For part of Duodecim, not all), Yuna, Shantotto, Vaan and Lightning

Chaos; Garland, Empy, CoD (one of my friends actually thought I meant Call Of Duty, I facepalmed), Golbez, Exdeath, Kefka, Sephiroth, Ultimecia, Kuja (?), Gabranth

It's not much different, but it proves that it's still 18 to 10 for now in terms of Cosmos to Chaos characters, not 17 to 11

I also made the initial count before the Jump Festa trailer was released, so that was before Yuna was announced and we found out this was the war when Jecht fought for Cosmos.

So after thinking about it some more, I guess the pic makes sense. The original Dissidia says that Tidus is new to the wars and isn't supposed to be there while Jecht is still fighting for Cosmos. Terra is obvious since she's under mind control and is a Chaos warrior. Cloud... eh... Sephiroth mind control? I dunno.

Just thought I'd tell you, Prishe from Final Fantasy 11 and Gilgamesh from Final Fantasy 5 have just been announced and confirmed for Duodecim
