Since when is Tears controversial lol

Only people it's controversial to is people who don't like Zelda

Since BotW

apparently it's now an unpopular opinion in the Zelda subreddit to like BotW or TotK because one of my guild mates in XIV always bitches about the Zelda Subreddit

BotW and Tears controversial was a bit more on the weapon degredation and how it abandoned proper dungeons

Otherwise there wasn't much

True; there were things that irked the ire, as we say, but that ending was the cherry on top; straw atop the camels back.

apparently the shit got really bad with the Aonuma interview

remember this one interview where Aonuma said that he doesn't understand why people would want old Zelda back?

people absolutely went batshit crazy after it

Zelda purists are probably worse than FF purists right now

And they are valid for that

Dumb statement is a dumb statement

yeah it was insanely out of touch the interview

Got im Himmel dude; so you're telling me the grass isn't greener on the other wide after all?

*side

That whole sentence made no sense to me

like even Kitase said that they understand why people want turn-based

I'm gonna be honest like, I'm surprised of all people it's a Zelda person who said something like that.

and he politely explained that they don't want to force devs into a style of game they aren't good at which is a fair point

Yes, everything they've done has been bad faithfully compared to OOC and MM, but like they've had plenty of opportunities to experiment and change up the formula, and have at that.

It's not fans fault that A. they switch styles from game to game, and B. BOTW was exponentially more successful than Skyward Sword was lmao

Changing stuff isn't even a problem

I just don't like completely abandoning what made them work

The dungeons in the Zelda games are a huge part of what made them fun

So to have now two games where they suck ass just for an open world that's just kinda fine does suck

And then that interview doesn't help much either

Well Ot you raise a lot of good points

Too bad Dev-san would have taken that as you "trying to hold them back" a-firetruckin-pparently.

It's like Yoshi-P saying that they should follow trends and that's why FF16 is an action game

Like yeah I am okay with going in action

This is why it's ok to be mean to Game devs sometimes lol there's a fine line between "artistic vision" and "abandoning your roots" there is a difference, its a thin difference, and it's muddy, bit it's there.

You just said it right now but, FF16 does not abandon its FF roots.

But you can still keep some of the old elements like superbosses, good items or just even some decent RPG stuff

It forsakes some of it's RPG elements

But not it's Final Fantasy elements
