Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link .ipa and/or .apk Prototype/Beta preservation effort

Posted

Hello everyone.

If someone still has this installed on their phone, i can walk you through on how to dump it if you do not know how to do it yourself.

My objective is to preserve the game. It is evident that many elements of the game will undergo changes between the beta and release versions, and mobile games (or betas for that matter) are rarely preserved in any form. While I acknowledge that the game may not be playable or functional, my primary concern is to access the assets and other relevant information via datamining. I possess the AES key necessary for decryption, and I have most of the required tools to inspect the game and its assets. However, I lack the actual game dump to do this process.

Bottom line for missing link is that the beta absolutely needs to be preserved in any way possible. it cannot fall into obscurity like most other mobile games have, its very rare for a mobile game to be fully preserved, much less a beta. but it would be so important!

So again, if someone has the game still installed on their phones, i can walk you through it on how to dump it.

Think about the possibilities too, someone could port missing link maps and stuff like that to KH3 too as mods.

The latest beta has now been preserved. A huge thank you for that individual who helped preserve gaming history.
The build will be released some time after the official release of the game on various game preservation outlets and forums.
However, as good as these news are, we are still missing the other builds.

MISSING:
-The closed beta test build for iOS devices that occurred on January 13-18, 2023. The prototype test was exclusive to Japan.
-The second closed beta testing period for Japan, the United Kingdom, and Australia was ran for iOS devices on November 29, 2023 and was planned for Android devices in January 2024, but the Android testing was later delayed until Spring 2024
-The latest build from May 5, 2024 to May 10, 2024 for iOS

FOUND:
-The latest build from May 5, 2024 to May 10, 2024 for Android (.apk + obb folder preserved)

Contact me if you want to help with the project.

Wait you have the APK for it?

Yes. We had to use an apk extractor program to get it.

WHOA! Do you think you'll release it soon?

Curious to see what can be uncovered and though I don’t know of anyone who has the other builds I hope you’re able to find them!

I’d actually be happy to add any assets or renders to our archives gallery if/when they can be shared. :)

That sounds good for me. I think this is a great idea. I am sure content creators and other people well versed in this kind of stuff will have a field day with this. I also find it really interesting to compare beta assets to release version assets to compare how much they have changed over time and stuff like that. I am sure this build will prove to be irreplaceable in the future!

I hope this game comes to console in the future so I can play like online like Hogwarts legacy how they made it like a real world, but instead you can play with your friends we would be one of the biggest things PS4 series or the PS5

any possibility on sharing said data?

Well.

I am sure all of you have seen the news by now, so i'll make a statement right now.

Until we are absolutely sure this game will never come out in any shape or form, i am NOT going to release the files in order to prevent spoilers and leaks. I know this may come as a surprise and disappointment to some, but this is absolutely the right way to navigate this situation right now. We as a fan community may hold some of the cards right now, but leaking all of the assets would be extremely bad in my opinion as doing so might potentially hurt a possible rework of Missing Link into a proper console title or a movie or some other project.

So, bottom line is that the files will not be released until we are absolutely sure the game is never coming out in any media form.

I hope you can understand this.

I would just like to say that if you see ANY new leaks from recent datamines and other sources, they won't be coming from me.

I would also like to extend this opportunity to ask that i am still looking for the other betas, so if you have them or some of them, please contact me.

If you have any questions, post a reply.

I mean, in a way I get not divulging any files until you're absolutely sure.

But I doubt a company is gonna go further than an official saying "We have decided to cancel the project 'Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link' since we couldn't find a way to properly make it for the fans."

I'm sorry, but the announcement seemed pretty cut and dry. And since Square ain't the type of company to just accidentally post or put out a huge statement like this on a whim. We can all assess that the game is dead... for now. Maybe it'll get made into a special-film like Union Cross or a DLC for Kingdom Hearts 4. But the game project for Missing-Link is dead.

Of course, if you guys wanna take your time to confirm it. Then by all means, do so. I can wait.

Your decision on this matter is, to be frank, nonsensical.

Let's say they do release some movie compilation, or something of the sort. But wait, certain characters who were named in the files, weren't named in the movie, or wait, this world or keyblade that shows up, didn't show up in the movie? You can continue to justify not leaking things forever under your own terms, because "they might use it in the future"

Except… things have already leaked. I can't say for certain that it was you who shared it in a Discord or Group Chat, but there is a group of people who are able to freely look at the datamined/beta content. So we have content creators with exclusive access, able to leak things as they please, or able to leak what their source is willing to give them. Do you not see the issue with this? Any trust when it comes to not leaking has already been betrayed, at this point, this is just gatekeeping, only to the benefit of content creators who have access in one way or the other.

You're looking for a negative confirmation that the game and it's assets will not be used, but we already have that negative confirmation. The game was cancelled. They didn't say "While the game has been cancelled, we will be certain to implement this story in the future" Why would they not want to lessen the blow if they could? I believe you might have some presumption that this info will be released before or with KHIV, but then even if it isn't, no news = no further negative confirmation. You can justify delaying the release of the beta files forever. Your post comes off as wanting some explicit mention that these story elements will never ever be used, as if a company will go out and say that.

In fact, they decided to release new images of KHIV, rather than any reassurances regarding the ML story content, which only enhances the idea that they're scrapping it. They easily could have reassured us at the same time they posted the KHIV screenshots, and they chose not to. Or rather, they felt it was unnecessary to elaborate, it was cancelled, and that's what they meant. ML was meant to be one of the bridges between mainline games, and now it's just gone.

I feel my second point is the most important. We've already had leaks, and we have no reason to believe there won't be further ones. Instead of making it so YouTubers can clickbait for years to come. I'm aware that some content creators have claimed they will not share story spoilers, but presuming they're beheld to this, well, lets say when the news dries up, I doubt it.  I believe the correct solution is just to release them. Warn people to mute or avoid KH places for like a week to a month, and then suddenly we'll barely see anything, because news cycles fast.

I understand you only have good intentions, but I believe you have made the wrong decision, and I ask you to reconsider.

Edit like 8 hours later: We already have someone leaking things, including OST and worlds (which was something of a sticking point). Out of respect I'll not link it here, but I feel there's very little reason to not just go ahead now.

could you provide me with the leaks if you have them my discord is Glitxhhh

Sucks tho your not gonna release the APK then

Just a quick question about functionality: KHUx is lost media, with it's smaller cousin Dark Road only being playable because Square Enix took the time to make it that it "could" be playable after meeting it's end.  Kingdom Hearts Missing Link is similar in that it also mostly online, but functionally is a completely different beast than it's predecessors.  So, if/when the .apk makes it's way into the wild, would any part of it be actually playable, with or without some serious effort from the modding community?

I think I still have both the December and May beta tests on my phone (iOS). However I have no experience of preserving things like this. Are they still needed?
