JTD95 1,110 Posted July 4 Hiya folks. I recently made a video where I attempt to redraw a lot of the KH2 Heartless to be more similar to the KH1's Heartless design philosophy. As I state in the video, it's not about fixing them, it's just a fun exercise. I believe people have done similar things within the Pokemon community; making idk gen 5 Pokemon feel like gen 1 Pokemons. Idk, I'm not in that community. Anyways, if that sounds interesting please check it out, and if it sounds boring as hell then feel free to move along lol. 1 WakelessDream reacted to this
WakelessDream 2,296 Posted July 4 Some really cool re-designs in here! I think my favorites were the fiery globe and ice cube, they looked a lot cuter with your redraws! Also appreciate you outlining your process and the timeline for the entire project, looks like a lot of thought and effort went into it over quite a bit of time. Also neat that your re-draws match the aesthetic of what we might find in concept art/art books. Curious to know if there was one you had the most fun with or were most satisfied with over the others. Thanks for sharing here with us. 1 JTD95 reacted to this

Yeah a lot of thought and effort was put into this, and I've on numerous occasions debated whether I should finish the project. But I always leaned back on the assumption that at least a few people would probably find it interesting/entertaining, so that pushed me to finish it. And it was fun to do! That is a great question! When drawing I often find the sketching phase to be the most fun; when you're still workshopping the idea. And the Hot Rod redesign was the one I struggled with the most and thus the one which yielded the most different sketches. So I believe in the end - despite the struggle - that one might've been the most fun to do! Two others I was greatly pleased with were the Morning Star and the Fortuneteller. They saw some of the least drastic changes, but the smaller changes they did receive I felt made a world of difference, so I was quite satisfied with those! 1 WakelessDream reacted to this

Based on what you said in the video, I would have thought the Hot Rod might not have been too fun. All the Timeless River heartless did seem challenging, they're so specific to that particular world that I honestly wouldn't know where to start on how to re-design them so they might fit elsewhere. The Fortune Teller was interesting too, I didn't notice that it had a more specifically feminine design until you pointed it out, the re-color on that one looked quite nice too. Hope you have as much fun with any future projects that might be in the works!
