The mark of mastery exam isnt a competition but more of a right of passage for keyblade wielders. If one passes in the eyes of the one who administers the exam then they will be entitled to certain knowledge and possibly abilities.

it's a test to see if they have what it takes to be masters. same test terra and aqua took

a mark of mastery exam is where two or more keyblade masters test the strength of will and ability with the keyblade of one or more apprentices they have taken under their wing. that is what Terra and Aqua were going through at the beginning of BBS, and what Sora and Riku will go through in Dream Drop Distance. even though Sora and Riku weren't working under any masters, they've been gaining experience on their own fighting the likes of Ansem SoD and Organization XIII.

Like the others have stated, it's a test of will, strength, and heart. It's just to show weather pr not keyblade weilders are strong enough to protect the worlds from becoming unbalanced. That's pretty much what Sora and Riku are going to be taking in KH:DDD.

The question has been answered, but I'dd add this. It's doesn't matter whether you win or lose, since you can take it and both of them don't pass.

it to become a keyblade master since theyre the only two that can weild the keyblade at the moment

tutti frutti. I believe Mickey had passed the exam, from what Yen Sid mention in the secret ending of Re: Coded. But overall the exam is merely a test for the Master level. I'm sure that Yen Side has his own bit of information that he only gives Mickey in that regard, and may later pass on to Sora and Riku should they pass.

what im confused on is if its a mark of mastery test then why do they have the look from kingdom hearts 1?

if that even makes any sense at all

i don't think we have an answer to that just yet from anyone in SE (or at least, not that i've heard). i'm sure there are others with the same question you have.
