When and how Riku gets his Keyblade

Posted

i think riku's sword changed into a keyblade when they where in "the world that never was" and the machine (when it blew up) it changed riku and maybe it changed his sword too into a keyblade. just a thought, like ansem the wise said, anything could happen. the reason i say this is because in the beginning parts of the game (kh2) he was using his regular soul eater sword. what do you guys think?

Riku got his inherited keyblade back, I assume, because he conquered the darkness and didn't let it control him, re-establishing his strong heart.  He lost it before because he lost control of himself to the darkness, but has since managed to do something Terra couldn't - whose older and been training for a lot longer under a proper master (Sora and Riku kinda just learned on the job).  I wouldn't be surprised is Riku is the only one so far who's done this, however since we don't know a lot about the Keyblade war I can't state for certain.

In Birth By Sleep, it explains that Terra essentially made Riku his successor, and that Riku would inherit the Keyblade from him.

ecsacty right kirito.

Could you please give an explanation for the new Keyblade “Way to the Dawn” that Riku obtained, and the Keyblade Kairi has, as well as what the conditions for using a Keyblade are?

Nomura: There isn’t necessarily one Keyblade for the dark side andone for the light side, just as many as there exist people withqualified hearts. Concerning the conditions to wield one, at this stage,“Those with strong hearts” is the only obvious one. However, lessobvious conditions still exist and there are still plans for anopportunity to reveal those. Riku’s “Way to the Dawn” and Kairi’sKeyblade are naturally the same type of Keyblade as Sora’s. Howeverthere is no particular explanation for the Soul Eater’s transfer and occurrence, as well as Riku’s handing of a Keyblade to Kairi. When thereisn’t a normal process of acquisition, I think its OK to think there is some deeper meaning there.

We found out that Riku’s Keyblade’s name is “Way to the Dawn” when examining his item slots after he joined your party. Is that Keyblade a transfigured version of Soul Eater?

Nomura: I designed it with that image. Since Riku has always been using Soul Eater, he still calls it that even after it changed form. Keyblades aren’t something that you can obtain suddenly out of nowhere so in Riku’s case, his Soul Eater was used as an intermediary for that Keyblade.

If his soul eater was used as the base, then how come he can summon both soul eater and his keyblade? -_-

ya, but Riku was supposed to receive it in KH1 right? but since his heart was full of darkness at the time i guess the keyblade didnt find him worthy, I wanna know like when exactly Riku got the keyblade and why did he think Riku was worthy while he was in his Ansem form

but wait wasnt Riku's inherited Keyblade the one that Sora got? Riku was supposed to receive that keyblade, but then Sora got it instead, so did another keyblade just come by? I know that the keyblade inheritance ceremony just makes Riku able to weild a keyblade so did a different keyblade choose him then?

i think i already made this topic.

oh did you? am i supposed to delete this thread or something then?

He used to summon the soul eater. Every time after that, He used his Keyblade.

Then you have not played Dream Drop Distance.

Before the exam when talking to Yen Sid he summns his Soul Eater and then the Keyblade. He also uses the soul eater when fighting Ursula.

I've played Dream Drop Distance twice actually, but my bad, I mustn't have been paying attention the first time ._.' I skipped all the cutscenes second run through so I would have missed that. Usually I research before I comment but I was lazy that time, going by what I remember xD But yeah.. gee i've been wrong a lot today xD

It's not known exactly when he got it, but Riku always had the "ability" to wield a keyblade. He already had the Way to Dawn before the blast, and he doesn't necessarily have to have got it before Land of Dragons, he could be just not wielding the keyblade and using Soul Eater by choice. I guess he got it sometime after becoming Ansem, he already had the resolve to endure and batlle in darkness and he gave up his form to save Sora, somehow those awakened his own Keyblade, that is heavily based on Soul Eater, with an aditional detail of how he fights for Light using his Darkness.

All I know is that Way to Dawn is in my opinion the best looking Keyblade in the game. So awesome.

Anyways... It doesn't really explain when he gets it, and correct me if i'm wrong but no one really even acknowledges that it changed to Way to Dawn. I do know that Soul Eater is enhanced by Darkness, so it could be possible he was just using Soul Eater at the time because of it's ability. It does say at the end of Riku's story in COM that he taking the Road to Dawn... It's possible he could of gotten it that far back?

Who knows for sure.
