Sonic Generations discussion and speculation thread

Posted

I made this thread for people who are anticipating this game and for speculation. Ill post news when I see it. First I have watched the gameplay for chemical zone a while back and I studied modern Sonic. I believe they are using PS3's Sonic Unleashed game engine not Colors.(No f**king double jump... Thank goodness.) Now I wished they would stop doing that speed thing and go back to the classic 3D style of Sonic.(Play Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, or Sonic The Hedgehog 06.) Now for classic. I played the demo that Sega sent out for Sonics a couple days after release and I played it like 5 times. It was amazing. Now for Super Sonic speculation. In Colors, the Wii version didnt have a special Super Sonic boss fight. The DS version did. Not having a boss fight like that in the Wii version pissed me off. One of the many reasons why I hated Colors for the Wii. I believe they are doing it again for the PS3 and Xbox versions. If you watch the gameplay for Chemical plant zone and City Escape you can see a red ring in the classic stage. I believe the 3DS will have one though considering the special stage has been revealed. (its just like Sonic Hereos)

1- What's so bad about double jump

2- The final boss can still be beaten as Super Sonic, just collect fifty rings and turn into him.

3- Classic 3D Sonic is ridiculously glitchy. Why would we go back to that

4- The game uses a modified Colours engine, which was based on the PS360 Unleashed engine. They can't just port the Colours engine, so it's basically a new engine, similar to the Unleashed style. Unless you're talking about the Hedgehog engine, which they are indeed reusing.

1-The only Sonic double jump that was any good was the lightning shield from Sonic 3.

2-Can you prove that because I didnt see this in Colors

3-Which one specifically? Sonic 06 I understand, but there are only a couple glitches in Sonic Adventure and Adventure 2. If you play the downloadable one though, it is glitchy (The one fore 360 and PS3)

4-I was more referring to the hedgehog engine overall, but people who have played as modern are saying it is a tweaked Unleashed engine.

I believe that the reason I hate colors is the graphics first. I guess when I played Unleashed for the PS3 I got hooked on the look of it, but also the gameplay. Colors to me was like a horrible attempt to recreate unleashed engine.

I believe it's going to be really good.

I was hoping for a game like this for a long time.

I have a feeling this is going to be good as well.

This features Rooftop Run(Unleashed) and Seaside Hill(Sonic Heroes).

Also check these screen shots out. http://www.sonicstad...enerations-3ds/ This is Generations for 3DS. Mushroom Hill Zone.

Look at the end with the two Sonic's. Pretty cool if you ask me. Now its time for a little speculation. I think Tails might be playable. Now they have said that the two sonics were the only playable characters, but things can change. Maybe you can play as them in some missions. What does anyone else think?

You can play as lots of different characters in co-op missions. At least, that's what various wiki's tell me, I've never heard it from Sega themselves

1- Uh... why exactly?

2- Do you even know it's possible to turn into Super Sonic in Colours? You can become Super Sonic in any level you can find 50 rings in.

3- I've never played The Dreamcast versions of the Adventure series, but I have played the gamecube versions, which are said to be exact ports of the game. Beyond that, I've seen full playthroughs of both Adventure games on the original Dreamcast. These games a glitchy, more SA1 than SA2, but SA2 still isn't innocent. There are tonnes of problems and tricks, some hurt the game, some don't. One thing's for sure, all the more recent Sonic games are drastically more polished.

4- Well the hedgehog engine thing is true, but Colours is basically a tweaked Unleashed engine, which has been furtehr tweaked to form the Generations engine.

That's a really silly first reason to hate a game.

That video's awesome.

Yeah it was a sick video.

I wouldnt trust wiki about a game that isnt do for release for another 2 months. Also I noticed how these videos focus on Classic Sonic more than Modern Sonic.

1-The lightning shield made alot more since. The double jump didnt. Also they could have just made Sonic jump at his normal height.

2-I know you can you have to collect all the red rings, but I was referring to the final boss stage.

3-Well of course there were glitchs, but now that Sega has a better budget they should perfect at least Sonic 06. Seriously if they put another month in that game it would have been 10 times better.

4-Actually I agree it is a dumb reason to hate it, but it might just be the fact that I had extremely high expectations for it. It really just felt like a different, but similar engine.

This game look sooo nice, its too bad its not going be on the Wii :( but why in the 3DS instead? it makes me so mad.

Its on the 3DS because the 3DS has a different level set except for Green Hill Zone. Also both Sonics have 2D gameplay, but classic sonic is about platforming while Modern Sonic is based more on speed (plays like Sonic Colors for the DS)

http://www.sonicstad...enerations-3ds/ Go to this link. It has the pictures of the Mushroom Hill Zone. (3DS exclusive). The 3DS version takes levels from the gameboy advance and DS series (Sonic advance 1, 2, and 3. Sonic Rush, Sonic Rush Adventure, and possibly Sonic Colors DS). Also the reason why its on the 3DS is because the 3DS has much better graphics than the DS

Too bad it's on the 3DS, or else Mushroom Hill would kick ass on other consoles.

Actually people who have played the 3DS version say it has great graphics. I think it would look really good when you play as classic Sonic, but it would feel wierd to have a 3D Mushroom Hill zone

Agreed.

Still awesome though

The 3DS has about the power of an original X-Box, but with lighting capabilities just shy of HD consoles, that's hwy it looks nice, and that's why there's a version of Generations for it

I know, right?

The 3DS is graphically superior to the Wii. Also a handheld version of the game lets you play handheld inspired levels.

Yeah it was a sick video.

It's not just the wiki's, hackers found data implying there would be 5 missions for each level, further exploration revealed that these levels had some sort of co-op feature. The only thing is, there's nothing to imply these co-op missions are 2 player, or if the missions simply have AI allies. It's still a pretty safe bet.

1- Okay, I think I'm starting to see your perspective. Here's what you need to know: Double jumps don't exist for the purpose of getting to a higher place, unless there is some conceivable way to NOT be able to double jump (Like say one character can regular jump, one can double jump) In most platformers, the double jump is a mechanic used to make platforming more accessible, but giving the player a bit more wiggle room when it comes to timing their jumps. In a fast paced game like Sonic, that can be important.

But on another note, HOW does the electric shield double jump make any sense? :P

2- To my knowledge, Super Sonic can be used in any stage, including bosses.

3- The budget was only part of the problem, Sega has simply rushed most of their games out the door to meet a deadline, there's still not much of an excuse to have a glitchy game engine, considering that's the FIRST thing you make in a game. Anyways, as far as I'm concerned, the lack of polish in the Adventure series is inexcusable, especially for being touted as the best games in the series in the last decade.

4- It's a shame, supposedly, if you play Colours on the PC, and force it into HD, the game looks amazing, but of course, we're stuck with Nintendo's SD resolution...

  • Author

Well Aaron Webber said that alot of things that were found in that demo were old ideas although I agree it is a safe bet.

I like how we are numbering things lol.

1-The electric shield is a powerup. Usually a powerup allows someone to double jump (Crash bandicoot is a good example.)

2-I knew you could do it on stages, but not on boss stages

3-Well I cant disagree with you there, but those games were really good. Adventure 1 was hated because of big the cat but it was still a good game. The only newer game that I feel is almost equal to it is Unleashed PS3. Not Wii version.

4-Play it on the PC? You mean Emulator? Also we wont have to worry about their resolution much longer.

Al.though there have been pictures of 3DS gameplay and horrible quality gameplay footage, this is different. Play in hd it looks great. First gameplay of mushroom hill zone.

I haven't been paying much attention to this game, but I saw the video of the Mushroom Hill Zone on the 3DS blog, and I must say it looks great. I was never really that good on my Genesis Sonic Games, but this looks like it might be worth picking up.

  • Author

Yeah it looks like they used some Sonic Unleashed features with modern Sonic.

On a side note, here is gameplay footage of a boss in the 3DS version.

The plot of Sonic Generations has been revealed. Here it is.

At the start of the game, everyone is attending a picnic in honor of Sonic’s 20th, when all of a sudden a mysterious dark force intrudes and sends everyone, including our spiky blue protagonist, back in time. Sonic is finding a way to get himself and everyone else back to the present time and along the way he bumps into many familiar faces including his younger (albeit chubbier) self! The two Sonics team up and work together to save their friends once again.

Its been confirmed that there are 5 red rings in every single level and that they unlock special content which is unknown at this time.

Does anybody besides me miss Emblems?
