Two months ago inside a Famitsu interview with Nomura, he confirmed that after 6 years, they are finally preparing to go into full production of Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Yesterday it was confirmed that this has begun.

During yesterdays Final Fantasy XIII-2 Fan meeting, Kitase was questioned about the development of Type-0 and Versus. His answer, “for Type-0 and Versus XIII we are giving 100% to development”. With just over a month to go until Type-0 is out, that’s unsurprising but the fact that Versus is now in full production should give a lot of people hope. Just for reference, it was also confirmed that XIII-2 is 90% complete with a development period of 1 and a half years.

That's good to hear about Versus. I just hope that it releases outside of Japan unlike with Type-0 >_>. Versus XIII is one of my most anticipated PS3 titles along with Sonic Generations, Batman Arkham City, and Uncharted 3. If they dare to keep it japan exclusive I think i'll be done with SE. it's bad enough they're keeping Type-0 Japan exclusive. As for FF XIII-2 it's no suprise that it's taking a quick time to develope the game since they are using the same engine from the first game.

They're just NOW putting 100% attention on vs XIII? xD

Um..okay So I'm gonna be totally unreasonable here. If they weren't giving 100% percent attantion to Verses XIII THEN WHAT THE F*** ELSE WERE THEY DOING?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Their whole resoning for not working on KH3 was because the main team was working on Verses XIII...WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!! What else were they doing, FF XIII-2, um 1.5 years of it maybe. Is there a ping-pong table in their central office or something that some crazy person just recently put an ax to?

Really SE? REALLY? TO HELL WITH YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!...So when's it coming out in the US again?

Most likely MOST of the team was working on Versus, and now ALL of the team is.

I'm with KoV with this. This game looks like a graphic intense game with a new engine and would require a lot of work. Why hasn't it been in full production before? They are just costing themselves more labor cost and slowing down their ability to work on more games like KH3 and future FF games, their biggest money makers. What other projects were so much more important? Dragon Quest? please...

First off, Dragon Quest makes Square more money than KH. Second, you do realize that now all jobs on a development team occur throughout the entire process, right? And that is costs money to have everybody working at once? If anything, this isn't costing Square more money, it's saving it.

But yeah, games don't start in full production, we're only noticing it here because Versus is taking so freaking long to make.

Depends on what SE production pipeline is, and all developers have their own way of organizing the work. Some companies follow the more traditional modeling>texturing>animation>lighting sort of process and though they can overlap as they cover different areas, they can usually get the people earlier in the pipeline to start working on something else and pull them if they need something touched up. But all labor is money. That's business.

But there are a lot of jobs besides graphical ones. Do you think the voice actors need to be working the whole time? The concept artists? Do you think Yoko Shimomura has been composing for six years? What about advertising? What about beta testers?

There are a lot of jobs that don't require full time use.

Don't forget concept artist and designers, rigging (I forgot that in the pipeline :P), and even the accountants. Yeah, I know. But they haven't been getting the full team of what's required of the phase of production they're in is what they're saying. Oh, and the concept artists are a part of the whole production because they have to make sure the team is getting their designs right. But yeah, no point trying to get more detailed than that when we don't know how they organize their work.

Well, actually, in this case, the Concept Artist is ALWAYS involved because it's Nomura :P

But usually Concept Artists are around for the first chunk of development, but fade out around the end, when all the designs are final.

True true, depends on their position, like Nomura being around for the whole thing cause he's that special ;)

...They're focusing it fully NOW? What were they doing if they weren't doing Versus XIII?

Well, at least we've got this bit of news. Because once they're done with Versus XIII, Kingdom Hearts III will be underway! :D Seriously, I can't. Wait. For. KHIII. Final Fantasy seems pretty fun, but compared to Kingdom Hearts... screw it. xD

This is about when they sifted to next gen.
