Is grammar THAT big of a deal on this website?

Posted

I just read a forum and people were criticizing him/her left and right about his grammar. They weren't even really answering his question.

But it wasn't bad at all. I mean as long as you can understand what you're reading that should be good enough, right?

  • Actually, no, bad grammar is not fine. You do need it in life and it's a must for mostly every job. So, no, it's not fine at all. But, as a personal preference, terrible grammar bothers me and other

You are using a keyboard. Therefore, it has takes a tenth of a second to put a period at the end of a sentence, and if you do, you just made your post that much easier to read for the people who are a

I think it is too. I've noticed that people who type with bad grammar are better at understanding it (Which is probably why they think it's so unimportant if they can understand it just fine), which m

I think it's fine that people don't use proper grammar ALL the time. Earlier, I typed my opinion on this forum and I did it the "other way" because I was on my phone. I WILL NOT sit on my phone for 10 minutes just to type a response because I have to capitalize everything. I still put comma's though and other punctuations, I just abbraviate my words because I don't feel like typing it all out while on my phone.

Right now I'm on my laptop. You'll see me post like this a lot, and other times the "other way" because I'm on my phone. Not a big deal.

However, again, I do agree that kids at school typing like that for reports, projects or homework is a disgrace. Proper grammar HAS to be done right for school and work. But I think if you're on a gaming forum (it's not like you're on a professional political forum) it's OKAY to abbreviate your words. It's really not that big of a deal if you ask me. It's just unnecessary to be so critical especially when most of the people who type like that or make errors are between 10-14. They're kids. They're going to be mess up and misspell words and not use proper punctuations. No need to be hard on them. This is NOT school, no one here is their parent or teacher.. They're just here to have fun. Let them have fun. If people are going to get THAT pissed, aggravated or stressed over how a kid types, that's a little too much.

For the record, I spend ten minutes on my phone texting people so I can have proper spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Over-achieving can be just as bad as under-achieving.

So what? Some get lazy, some bad grammar or horrible spelling. Like I said. GET OVER IT

Bad grammar is okay. Good grammar is better...

Basically, we hate it when people speak with bad grammar on purpose. However, if they speak with bad grammar because they don't know any better, well, it's fine to give them HELPFUL TIPS, rather than insulting them. Definitely not okay to bitch about them or make them feel bad about it.

Over-achieving can be just as bad as under-achieving.

It's just a habit I have. It's not like you see me shunning or treating people with bad grammar like pariahs. I don't grill others.

In addition to what I said earlier: I realize this site largely attracts kids. For those of us who were Sora's age when KH1 first came out, do you realize how old we are now? Early twenties. My generation is different than the generation of new 10-16 year olds who are just now getting into it.

I dislike the chatspeak, which honestly has little to do with grammar and that seems to be a big miscommunication here, but I ignore how other users type on this site in particular because I realize that I'm dealing with children. Most of my generation has left the scene, and the ones who haven't are the ones who end up running and managing sites like this. But then again there are people much younger than me acting as moderators here and it's because they show a level of maturity that stands out.

I don't have the patience to correct you when you aren't even trying, so I'm not one of the people who complain over how you type to your face.
