So, I'm going to be in high school next year, and I need some help for taking the ISEE exam. I don't want to go to the public school in my district and I need help. When I was taking the Reading Comprehension practice test, I scored poorly on it. So I need advise for how to do well on the Reading Comprehension without having to rush, finish on time, and efficently read and answer the questions. I do pretty well on everything else but Reading Comprehension.

First, reach yourself how to skim a page of text properly, not just look at it fast, you have to be able to take in the text. The on the actual test, skip to the questions, trust me, this works, cause they normally bold or underline key words as part of the question, those words, are notmally bolded or undrlined in the passage as well, read each question, and then skim for the answer, they normally go in order. the you should have an open ended part, which, if you did the questions properly, the answer should be a combination of them and some extra. And make sure to use the proper format for the openended, like a letter format or RSSE/QASI for bullets(I'll explain later, trying to rush a bit here).

When I do those tests, first I read the questions. Then you can keep them in your head while your reading. While Im reading Ill ask myself in my head "Whats the main point" or "What are they trying to say". It also makes it easier to remember what youve read by trying to relate to stuff you already remember or experience. Maybe you could try that out the next time you do a practice test.
I'm generally very good at reading comprehension, just because I read a lot. That could help; most people who read for a decent time period a day score well on those types of things. When I do the reading comprehension section, I do what Loki suggested--I usually scan the questions first, so I can answer as I read, which saves time in case you get stuck later. Hope this helps and you do better next time! (:

Here in Brazil, we don't have that exam. But yeah, what lexi and Loki said seems to be the better way to help you on your studies (:

Wish you good luck!

I know you will do well on it (:

Thanks, I'll try that!

@lexi: I tend to read a lot though. That's what I don't really understand. Maybe because I'm a slow reader.

I agree with Loki

read the questions first and then read while underlining/highlighting important things and key points as well as possible answers. then go back to the questions and instead of having to search for the answer, you already have what you need underlined/highlighted
