J.K Rowling wanted Ron killed off

Featured Replies

I want to see Ivan's reaction.

Honestly I was never a huge fan of Ron, there is just something about him that I never particularly liked. Throughout the series I thought one of the Golden Trio was going to die, and I was secretly hoping it'd be Ron, just because I didn't like him much. I was a bit disappointed when they all survived (not counting Harry's 'death' in the 7th book since he was still around and kickin' towards the end). Plus, Ron is Jo's character, so she can do whatever she wanted with him. If she wanted to kill him, then fine with her. :/

Ooooh I SEE! I was just thinking the trio would be together forever or something. But noo she has to kill one of the twins. It's not the same without him T. T ;A;

Wow, never thought that Ron was that close of perishing.

While I was sad to read/see Fred's death, along with many others, I thought it was a necessary decision for Jo to make (to have so many characters we love die). Having characters we know and love die gives us more of an effect that war has on people. Sure, Jo could've killed off minor characters we don't remember or don't have any feelings for, but what kind of impact would that give us? Not a very powerful one since all of the characters we favor are still alive and dandy. If we see characters that were loved die, then it can give us a similar feeling that war in the real world gives us. People lose a mother, a father, a brother, a sister, an aunt, uncle, or a cousin to war. I think Jo did a great job of portraying how war affects a family. George lost his twin, Teddy and Harry lost their parents (and godfather, familiar, professors, and so much more in Harry's case). Harry kept saying he didn't want people to die for him, but the death of a loved one is inevitable when it comes to a war.

One thing I'd really like to see was how the survivors adjusted to a normal (safe) life once again. Would Teddy notice his mother and father were gone? How did the Weasleys react whenever they saw George? And what about George? How did losing his twin affect him? He'd be a wreck for sure. Did the Golden Trio suffer from PTSD? Did any of them suffer from PTSD or any other psychological disorders? What about the Death Eaters that weren't killed, what happened to them? Did they get put back in Azkaban? Did they run? Did they try to get their revenge on Harry Potter? So many questions left unanswered.

But, I guess Jo wanted us to leave answering those questions to ourselves. Plus, I guess that wouldn't be a good move. Harry Potter was originally made to be a book for kids. While yes, there are a lot of older fans, it's made so anyone of any age can enjoy the series. I really don't think it'd be a smart move for a ten year old to be reading about the after effects of war. Some might not understand, or they just wouldn't be able to handle it. Which is why I like reading people's headcanons on what happens after the end of book seven. It gives me more to think about.

But to go back to the original topic of the forum, I would like to see what the series would be like if Ron actually was killed off. It'd certainly be a lot different, but interesting.

THAT right there, I really imagine what would happen if he DID die.

I would rather Ron die than Fred, but she would have probably still have killed Fred too. But I'm glad she didn't kill Ron because I know my friends that grew up poor could really relate to him, and I'm sure other kids in that economic status can too.

It would be the end of the world.

I love Ron!

He was almost as good as Hermione. Sure he could be a donkey at times, but he meant well. He was often the light comic relief in contrast to Harry and Hermione's lack of wizard world culture.

I cried for Fred, but if Ron got the axe, I'd rather the rest of the Weasleys all perish instead.

Unless Voldemort killed him while he was trying to save Hermione, then it'd be heroic.

Why does this keep happening to me?

It would be ineresting to see how that would've turned out.

Harry would wander into the lake at the Forest of Dean, go to retreive the sword, but drown in the lake.

Voldemort would then proceed to kill everyone until Hermione finds all the Horcruxes, places them together, and calls Voldemort. Voldemort appears and she casts Fiendfyre. All the Horcruxes, Voldemort, and Hermione perish.

But Dumbledore returns from beyond the grave and resurrects Hermione for her heroism and grants her one wish. She ponders reviving her two fallen friends.

She becomes the first witch to become the Minister of Magic.
