this is only the epilogue of a story i plan to adapt into a graphic novel series.
the main character is a teen male who has heard a voice since he was old enough to understand how to talk, after years of talking to this voice he has learned to hate it because it has caused for his friends and family to shun him, he lives alone in an apartment and he tells us about the story the voice speaks to him everyday. today he has decided to end his pain after school he runs to a shrine in the outskirts of town an anonymous figure trails, a lake comes into his view, he's going to drown himself with all the agonies he has suffered since he could remember .. time slows as he jumps in, he falls unconscious and the voice tells the story as the body falls to the bottom of the lake.
a young boy who grew up in his village, they were not all great times, just average life. a girl holds his hand as she walks him through the village, she turns and smiles to him, and the boy smiles back, he loves this girl. she is the next priestess to the shrine but he is still too young to understand. the sirens sound and people run by, the children are frightened and she takes him inside the shrine for safety. the sky lights up with the fire of fallen homes and dead bodies fall to the earth, a raid has commenced. after what seems like an eternity of shouts coming from the outside of the shrine voices are heard at the door. the girl runs to hide but when she turns around the boy is frozen so she runs to his protection as the bandits barge in. she falls on him, blood trickles down her mouth but she smiles still at the boy. a dark urge surges from the boy ... Do You Want To Save Her? .. he eagerly agrees to what the suspicious voice says and a new demonic presence takes over slaughtering the two men in it's wake .. it bursts out the shrine leaving the fallin girl behind with avenging tears and follows the bandits into the forest never to return for fear of what he may see if he should return. darkness takes over his soul and through the generations it has been passed to the main character.
he wakes up in shock to see he is breathing under water, a spirit illuminates the the bottom of the lake she resembles the girl we saw in the voices memories, she was buried at the shrine and the familiar cries of the lost boys spirit reside in the main character .. they are of the same line and she explains how she lived with the survivors of the village, and by the end of her story she pleads that he must save the boys soul, he has been possessed my a demon lord, he feels his presence .. the darkness that drove him to suicide .. and he agrees to find the demon and save the boys soul.
the priestess aware that the boy needed power equal to the demon and sent him through the shrine, a gate which opens to the portals of hell, an area of dispair and infinite darkness, she knew this was nothing new from the feelings he retained all his life and she explains how darkness is a link to power .. those who become depressed attract darkness into their body and in return it increases the amount of energy the body can maintain .. in other words the strain put on the body creates endurance to control the appropriate energy for each person, she saw how the water reacted around him as he drowned .. he thought he was able to breathe because of the holy element of the priestess but this was actually his own element reacting to her presence. she sends him into the river of the dead to train him to survive the darkness .. souls pound against in waves .. bashing and pouring .. telling him there last thoughts, for these are cursed souls sentenced to what seems like an eternity of dispair from their own separate desires .. "i want to die" ... "this dull world, sweep me away" another wave crashes against him, he understands this is where he wouldve been sent if he had succeeded .. a limbo of souls that curse themselves beating against one another in despair, yet feeling nothing, only wishing to escape .. these people are me ..
