DS games aren't region locked. But, I will be importing a Japanese 3DS for Dream Drop Distance, I can't stand waiting 8 months for SE to release it overseas. TPC recently released Pokemon Rumble Blast (Super Pokemon Rumble/Super Pokemon Scramble) for the 3DS. It might of not been the game people wanted but, you got a 3DS Pokemon game lol.

This is a quote from the CEO of TPC in July:

 

"We are working on games for both the DS and the 3DS that will surprise players."

 

The DS game he talked about is Pokemon X Nobunaga's Ambition and the 3DS game he talked about was Pokemon Rumble Blast. (Super Pokemon Rumble/Super Pokemon Scramble) Edit: Seems like I left out some things. The point is that there are no 3DS Pokemon games planned right now. The R/S/E remakes are in consideration (but probably in production) and I wouldn't be surprised if they had some 3DS exclusive features while being playable on DS.

They are hating on it for two reasons (at least that I have seen):

1) It is a WTF moment. Who, anywhere, ever thought that this would happen? It was so purely unexpected that it just seems random. And because of the highly unexpected nature, along with it being a cross-over with some series that many people haven't heard of, the automatic reaction is to question, criticize, and reject.

 

2)It is for the DS.

 

Personally I agree with both of those. However, I think it might be fun. Maybe...

Okay I had enough of this. Too many fans are hating on the cross-over. So now, You will suffer the wrath of a neutral pokemon fan that does not side with the nostalgia and new fans.

 

It is too early for pokemon Gray to be released.

 

Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire remakes weren't even started yet.

 

Pokemon generation V battle revolution could be in the making as we speak right now.

 

A pokemon ranger for V could be also in the making as well.

Cross-overs just fill in gaps for a huge game.
