Ok so after the special trailer to Dream Drop Distance and the recent interviews by Nomura about the game, we can somewhat see how the game will go. Now remember I said "SOMEWHAT" not completely. Before I start my long theory I will say this if you want to correct me on something that is ok, just please read my theory carefully before you judge thank you and I will not talk about alot of characters. Anyways here are what we know about the story
1. Sora and Riku will be taking the Mark of Mastery Exam
2. Sora and Riku will be in the Realm of Sleep
3. They will need to unlock the seven sleeping keyholes to return the worlds to normal
4. We will see past versions of Mickey
5. Xehanort will hold a key to the story
6. When Sora and Riku "Awaken" they will be acknowledged as masters
7. Lea and other past Organization 13 members are back to their original forms
8. Maleficant attacks King Mickey during Sora and Riku's adventure and knows about the sleeping keyholes
9: Mickey enters the Realm of Sleep
10: Sora and Riku will battle past villains as shown in the special Dream Drop Distance Trailer
11: Some worlds will be set in the past
The story starts off from where Re:Coded left off with Yen Sid telling Mickey about the coming threat of Master Xehanort. He tells Mickey to summon Riku and Sora so that they can take the Mark of Mastery Exam. As shown in the trailer Sora is fully prepared and confident that he will pass the exam with ease, on the other hand Riku still doubts that he should be a Keyblade Bearer thanks to his dark past and connection with the darkness. Before Yen Sid sends them off to the Realm of Sleep, he tells Sora and Riku that when they awaken they will be acknowledged as masters. He also tells them that they need to awaken the seven sleeping keyholes, and that they must forget their current skills.
(Now I find that strange, why would they need to forget the skills that has helped them through out the whole Kingdom Hearts saga? My theory is that Yen Sid figures that while Sora and Riku are powerful, there skills as Keyblade Bearers would be nothing against a master such as Xehanort who has already awakened the slumbering powers of the Keyblade. So Yen Sid wants Sora and Riku to awaken the slumbering power within themselves by awaking the worlds in the Realm of Sleep, thus when they awaken they will be powerful and skilled enough to take on Master Xehanort.) As we see in one of the trailers Lea is has returned to his original form, we also see in the special trailer that Ienzo, and Aeleus are back to their original forms as well (In a recent interview with Nomura, Nomura has stated that every Organization 13 members are back to their original form but not all of them are in the lab. For this reason idk they might be doing something or they lost their hearts in a different location in the castle. This has yet to be revealed)
Maleficant attacks King Mickey wanting the Datascape from Coded, but Lea stops Maleficant from taking the Datascape. Maleficant tells the heroes to unlock the seven sleeping keyholes and to watch out for enemies with "heart of pure light" (Who these enemies are one can only guess) (Now idk what part of the story this is, but Lea says somewhere in the story that he is "looking for something" fans speculate that since Lea and other Organization 13 members have all the memories from there nobody days Lea is looking for Roxas. This maybe true, but it could be said he might be looking for his childhood friend Isa. But since Lea said "something" instead of "someone" he could not be looking for a person, but an object. We will see)
As Sora and Riku progress through the Realm of Sleep we see that the duo are both confronted by Apprentice Xehanort in separate or same location in the trailers. Sora is questioned in La Cite des Cloches within Notre Dame by AX and who in the background seems to be Vanitas, while Riku is confronted by him in Travese town and Ansem: SOD of darkness in what seems to be La Cite des Cloches. (Now Riku and Sora will be confronted by AX in multiple worlds as shown in the trailer) Sora is shown to be struggling about his own identity while Riku is struggling with the darkness. (Now as we all know Sora's s is well known for his bonds with friends and strength of his heart. While Riku is well known for overcoming the darkness within him, so you can imagine this is somewhat the theme for the game.)
Later Mickey is shown in the Mysterious Tower, he ask Yen Sid permission to go in the Realm of Sleep where Riku and Sora are. He states that their is Riku and Sora are in danger, Yen Sid questions Mickey about how they would help the two, Mickey responds by saying "they follow the bonds between their hearts" As shown in the special trailer Yen Sid has apparently sent Mickey to help Sora and Riku. In the trailer it is shown that Riku and Mickey confront who seems to be the old master Xehanort and Mickey shouts "Master Xehanort I knew it!" and Sora is confronted by not only Braig, but AX too.
(Now we know AX or young Xehanort is the unknown figure or might not be Nomura has not confirmed this, and people wonder how can he be three people at once? Well as shown in multiple boss fights against him in the Kingdom Hearts series Xemnas the nobody of Xehanort is seen able to make a sort of "duplicate" of him self. Now as far as this power goes no one knows, but by Mickey and Yen Sid's concern Master Xehanort is within the Realm of Sleep with Riku and Sora. Now how he got in there with them maybe he used a different method then Yen Sid to get in there, he is a master like Yen Sid so he must know how to get in the Realm of Sleep. What does he want with Riku and Sora? Obviously to join him in his quest for Kingdom Hearts duh. Why is Sora in a coma? I figure because of the hearts within him Master Xehanort plans to use Sora to do either, A. Become his apprentice B. Make the X-Blade, or C. Somehow create a cataclysmic event, and in order for either of those things to work he had to "break" Sora's heart as we know Sora was questioning his own identity so possibly either AX beat him or confused his heart so much it sent him in a coma, and Riku probably accepted the fact that he his worthy of bearing the Keyblade. Thus light falls into darkness and darkness rises into light.) Now i'm not 100% sure with this it's just my theory are well you know sorry if I left anything out
