"What's going on here?"

 

It's true that I usually start papers (or reviews) with an applicable quote from the game, or a snazzy definition like for "Asura's Wrath", but this quote comes from... well, me. "Operation Raccoon City" brought up a lot of questions, but unlike 90% of Resident Evil games, most of them came from me, not the characters.

 

The game begins prior to Resident Evil 2, as the USS (Umbrella Security Service) rendezvous with HUNK from Alpha Team (in traditional RE fashion, Delta Team is always better than Alpha Team. See RE5.) to intercept William Birkin. We all know how this ends.

 

The majority of the game takes place prior to RE2, and sets up quite a few things for it, including reining in Umbrella's prized pet, the Nemesis. However, the game is non-canon, and thus these events cannot be taken seriously into the continuity. I would say that this is unfortunate, but making this game canon would raise more questions than answer them. Such questions include: "If the military's everywhere, why did I never run into the in RE2 or RE3?", "But if that happened, then why didn't I see that before?", and of course "WTF's up with that?!".

 

The game is very heavily multiplayer oriented, offering a rather short single-player campaign and five multiplayer options: Co-op, Team Attack, Biohazard, Heroes, and Survivor. I've only played one game of Heroes, but it does online play pretty well. In fact, multiplayer seems to have gotten the majority of the attention on this project... sadly.

 

The scripting's a little off, especially near the end, and most of the music is oriented with the faster pace of ORC. Basically, it's completely different from what you'd expect form the series.

 

This game's actually got my head so messed up and twisted around that's it's hard to come up with what to say next. If you're looking for agood third-person shooter and plan on playing online a lot, then this is a good pick for you. If you want to play a proper Resident Evil title, however, I'd have to recommend "Revelations" on the 3DS. Basically, don't set foot in Raccon City again if you're looking for answers; you'll leave with more questions than you entered with.

Awesome, ill get it anyway if the story is short or not lol it looked pretty awesome, but there isn't a Nemesis mode for PS3 i saw a trailer for it but its only for Xbox

You forgot 'Nemesis Mode', You forgot to list PC as a platform, and you spelled 'Operation' wrong. Nemesis Mode is Day 1 DLC for Xbox 360 and will be out eventually next month for PS3 and PC.

Nope. It's very far from CoD. It's pretty good, although I think it was only called a RE game just to sell. I don't mind breaks from the regular RE series, and Capcom formally stated that this isn't your regular RE game.
