Use Windows 8 today! Download Windows 8 Consumer Preview

Posted

The Windows 8 consumer preview is here and it's free to use! Download now and jump into the next generation of Window's computers!

This preview isn't for everyone though, expect frequent updates, occasional inconvienciences and I reccomend having good knowledge of how a computer works. If you run into any problems then you will probably need to solve them yourself.

1. YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO REVERT TO YOUR PREVIOUS VERSION OF WINDOWS UNLESS YOU HAVE THE DISK FOR IT. I have no regrets, Windows 8 is awesome but the next warning will explain why you should be careful...

2. Your shitty computer from 2003 isn't going to run it. It doesn't require as much processing power as you may think, not a lot actually. Windows 8 is grounded into Windows 7, if your computer gets slow if you run windows 7 then don't bother with this version and all future versions of Windows 8 or Windows OS for that matter.

3. Back up all of your important stuff. If you don't have a way to back all your stuff up or you don't know how I don't suggest downloading and installing the Consumer Preview.

Some cool features!

-Apps! You can download most of them for free! They are very nifty, beautiful, and fast! They are also superb for multitasking.

-Windows finally looks as sexy as an Apple operating system.

-You still have the old desktop. Don't panic.

-Internet explorer 10 is surprisngly fast and very high quality

-A much more user friendly interface.

-Lots of customization options

-Wireless Xbox Integration! Play Xbox Arcade games on your PC!

-All your old stuff should still work

-Cloud support

-Everything is in HD

-Excellent for touch screens...

-...yet still awesome for mouse and keyboard!

There are only two problems that seem to be exclusively connected with Windows 8 that I have ran into so far.

1. Flash is stubborn. It's annoying to download and I had to reinstall it several times just to get it to work properly. This could be a problem with Adobe though. Fixed, Adobe flash 11 doesn't seem to work. Download the latest version of 10 and it should work.

2. My sound doesn't work for anything besides default windows sounds. Not even music or anything. Just apps that are acting up with sound.

Other than that Windows 8 is AWESOME

Thanks for sharing this . im gettting mine right now . probably going to install it on the tower or something around here

Ok sorry for the double post but i kindy want to give my thoughts on this thing

ok so i finally got windows 8 on my laptop (a Lenovo T61) and it runs it alright for the most part but it is pretty taxing on my computer but after a few moments i starts to relax. but if you dont run a duel core or have at least 2 gigs of ram i suggest you get a new computer. this thing will just go BLARRrrrggg and wont want to run i bet.

a problem i feel i also have to suggest is just. i found the start screen to be fairly nice. and that the the for the most part it was organized and the apps that i could pick up would work wonderful.

now comes the problem that .i cant get over. its no there is nothing wrong. its just i feel their is a lack of progression from Windows 7 to windows 8. i know this has been up graded and all that but. beyond that start screen. its just a updated version of windows 7. like how windows 98 was to windows 95. For someone like me the new features does not really help me in the long haul since i'm mostly in the desktop more then anything else. when windows 8 comes out i'm just sticking to 7.

Now technical this preview works and operates fairly well but with flaws. the start screen program bar (the thing on the left of your screen i dont know much about it) can be clumsy and not wanting to work that good. a few apps that come with the system will not want to operate and just exit you back to the start screen. Start up on my machine will push the core to max for a few (running a duel core 2.0) and takes a few moments to start up fully. A good thing though i can say is that they kept enough of windows 7 in that most of your drivers and games will continue to work on windows 8 if you transfer them from the setup. what is nice since i dont have to go driver hunting for drivers that dont exist but one really does have to ask .. WTF IS THIS THING. windows 7 with a fancy start screen or a new OS.

Beyond that.i can say that Windows 8 is cool and if your a tech dude who likes to have new stuff (or you dont want to be like a toothless hillbilly livin in some hillbilly shake some place) getting windows 8 is worth it. but if your a avg joe who uses windows 7 daily, upgrading is just not worth the effort, time, and money.

You don't need a touch screen to use Windows 8. Your mouse an keyboard will now serve more function other than clicking.

Yea but you figure if they designed it for touch screens people are gonna be like "OOH OOH!!! I want one" and then the classical ones will be worn out and laptops will be replaced with some Microsoft version of an ipad =.= crazy >:I

the touch screen gag only really works until you go into the desktop . then its like windows seven .. in other words. if you are a normal PC user its no real update from seven besides processing and computing

I'll stick with Windows Vista until i get a new computer
