since most of us have finished MGS 4 there has been a confusion over one specific thing

was Liquid Snake really possessing(sorry for spelling) Ocelot or Ocelot was pretending to be Liquid in order to trick The Patriots

 

what I've figured from MGS2 and Big Boss's speech in MGS4 ending is that:

 

Liquid took over Ocelot's body in MGS2 because of his arm that has his DNA and nanomachines

then Ocelot discarded Liquid's arm and replaced it with a prosthetic(I don't know what it is)arm and used nanomachines and hypotherapy to trick The Patriots that he is Liquid but ended up completely possessed by Liquid's persona in MGS4

 

please correct me if I'm wrong I'm a big MGS Fan and I'm still thinking about this until now

Yeah,, in MGS2 he was actually being possessed by Liquid himself since he had Liquid's arm and nanomachines. But in MGS4, he replaces his arm with a different one and uses hypnotherapy to trick the Patriots into believing that Liquid has truly come back. But it didn't end up possessing Ocelot. As he even states during the ending of the game that he was only pretending to be Liquid. hence why he made those arm gestures and said "you're pretty good" before he died.

It's true that Ocelot transplanted Liquid's arm onto his body after the events of Sons of Liberty, but he wasn't truly "possessed". During the epilogue, Big Boss says that Ocelot underwent psychotherapy and hypnosis to make him believe that Liquid was trying to take control, as well as to make him behave as Liquid would have.The whole thing was not only a ploy to draw the Patriots' attention, but to bring Snake in as well.

what I think is that Liquid was controlling Ocelot until he lost to snake(Liquid's persona disappeared after he said that outer heaven is complete) because

It's not the original liquid who was controling Ocelot

It's his memory and persona that stored inside the nanomachines

thus creating another liquid inside Ocelot instead of the original just as Big Boss said(watch the ending It's more accurate than the wiki and the database)

he can have Liquid's memory but it's hard to act,behave and think identically like him

Ocelot planned to become Liquid but he didn't expect that his persona will took over him

Hell even he fight just like liquid and abandoned his SAA guns

and let's not forget mt.Snakemore
