There are two forms of Dream Eater's. Nightmares and Spirits. Dream Eater's are the forms that darkness take while in the sleeping worlds. Maybe the Dream Eater's survived. Maybe while the sleeping world was re-awoken, the Dream Eaters have re-emerged. In other words, there's the possibility that Sora didn't finish em' all of and their in the re-awakened world still wreaking havoc. Maybe they can even travel to other worlds on their on will. IDK, I want te Dream Eaters to have a full explanation like the Unversed in KH3.

 

If this isn't the case, then maybe Master Xehanort has reserruct them for various purposes. To train the new protagonists/antogonists or to help conquer the worlds and make them fall into darkness. The Heartless, Nobodies, Unversed, Dream Eaters, And New Enemy would all be nessacary in this game, ad Xehanort knows Heartless and Nobodies alone are not enough for any Keyblade wielder at this point.

I dont think Dream eaters will appear on kh3, because they take pretty much same role in Realm of Sleep as heartless take in Realm of Light. If heartless cant enter Realm of Sleep, i guess dream eaters cant enter Realms of Light and Darkness

If that translation from Ultimania is correct, Dream Eaters are born from the energy of the Jiminy Journal. Also, there are still other sleeping worlds, so I don't think the Realm of Sleep is finished. I think KHIII's prologue might take place in the Realm of Sleep, and you can chose a Dream Eater as Party member.

In fact, I believe that we still have not seen verything of the Realm of Sleep, so maybe we can only fight Dream Eaters there, just like we only fight Nobodies in some worlds in KHII.

On a related sidenote, I was wondering what new enemy they might introduce in KH3. My idea so far is that, since in Ansems secret report #4 he says "Three elements combine to create a life: a heart, a soul, and a body," and since they've used the heart (heartless) in the first game and the body (nobodies) in the second, maybe they'll somehow create a sort of "soul" bad guy for the third one?

A long time ago when I read that report I actually put that thought into consideration. I forgot about it until you brought it up now.

 

I was thinking "souls" and "spirits"(Dream Eaters) were the same thing in this case but probably not. So the new enemy could likely have something to do with the soul.

 

I was also hoping the Dream Eaters would be able to exit the Realm of Sleep and enter other realms suchs as The RoL and RoD. They should be able to scour the worlds like the Heartless, Nobodies, and Unversed.
