Possible Evolution of the Memento System (Spoilers)

Posted

In KH 3D, the Memento System allows you to read summaries of past KH games. In the future, as the plot becomes even more complex, this system will grow in necessity. As most people will know, in KH3 Ansem, Xemnas, Master Xehanort and others will return. I think a cool idea would be if the new Memento system includes boss battles/significant events from past games, with cutscenes. This wouldn't take much effort as the character animations would already be produced from the main storyline and the only added costs would involve reproducing cutscenes. Of course, only some of the bosses attacks would be used (the ones which were used in previous games) as having the full set of moves would destroy the excitement of fighting new bosses.

If all 7 Lights are controllable (which I doubt but it might happen) then even the battles from BBS could be reproduced as Aqua/Ventus/Terra would be characters you could control. Each character would have different pre-sets and you could play the previous games boss battles on different difficulties (changing abilities to make it easier or harder).

Another technique that could be used to convey the plot of previous games includes interactive cutscenes such as Sora Exploring Destiny Islands while its being destroyed or running through Castle Oblivion (like in the introduction to KHII).

Pages of text are necessary for understanding everything, but using a combination of action sequences involving bosses and main characters, cutscenesfrom previous games, and short interactive summaries of previous games using the in-game engine (not pre-rendered) could help make it easier to understand the series while not making it a chore.

u know what i loved about what you just said? when u said if we can fight or play as the 7 lights!!! :DD THAT WOULD BE SO EPIC!!!! IT WOULD BE A NEW TWIST TO THE GAME AND I FOR ONE WOULD BUY IT NO MATTER WHAT!!!! :DD

I think showing cutscenes and action fights from past games would really be beneficial for Square Enix. This way when more people jump on board with the series they can understand it a bit better without needing to be lost. It also adds a lot of features to the game which I personally am rather fond of. It also would be a nice tool just to refresh one's memory (bring back lovely memories http://kh13.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/happy.png) or just someone whose known the series for a long time and just wants to make sure they understand everything spot on. For the "newbies," it would even greater their interest in buying some of the earlier games.

I'd LOVE that. That's actually what I thought it was at first.

But it won't happen :/
