Lu Xun's guide to defeat Julius

Posted

Hey guys. So, as I just posted in a status, I just beat Julius with Riku less than an hour ago. And I'd like to share what I did so you can at least try to obtain Ultima Weapon, which is truly a nice Keyblade. The battle theme is also great, considering it comes from old good KHII battles.

Let's get to the main point then.

Well, I'm playing on Proud Mode, and Riku is at level 46.

Commands I used:

Ballonga

Ballonga

Dark Firaga

Curaga

Curaga

Cura

Ballon

Vanish(seems foolish, but can 'protect' you from some of Julius' attacks if you dodge just one time, which consequently gives you some time to heal yourself)

Keyblade used: Counterpoint

Dream Eaters used: Meowjesty, R & R Seal and Pegaslick. (This doesn't matter much, just try to select all Dream Eaters you have the most unlocked abilities.)

*Have Once More and Second Chance. Also, you need Magic Haste and Defense Boost. (they help a lot)

**Battle**

-During its first minutes, it's not hard. Just dodge or block every attack he makes. Look for an opening and use Ballonga and the other commands as much as possible. Never forget to Heal youself (cura is there because it reloads faster, and will save you from dying thanks to Once More and Second Chance.)

-When he is down to 6 or so HP bars, he'll use Lightning attacks. At first, when some lighting 'follow' you, just block, and you'll be safe from harm. He'll be more powerful for a while, but keep our old strategy, dodge, block, and send Ballongas.

-Some time after, he'll lose that extra power. You need to deal as much damage as possible to take him down before he can use Lighting again, but if you don't, just do everything you did before.

-Julius has an attack in which he jumps to the buildings and falls directly on you -- just use flowmotion. (I used Ballonga once, and it worked, but I'm not sure if it works while he's in his Lighting Mode, but give it a try.)

So yeah, that was my strategy for defeating him with Riku. I hope this can help you guys, even if just a little. As soon as I beat him with Sora, I'll update this thread as soon as possible with how I've done it.

Feel free to post your own methods of defeating him as well. After all, the point of this Guide is to help everyone finish the game, defeat every boss, and collect everything. Personally, I didn't find Julius to be such a hard secret boss, but I advice you to get at least to level 50 before trying to beat him. You can also refight him as many times as you desire.

Good Luck! :)

Thankyou so much. I haven't finished the game yet but this will help imensely when I come to fighting the big guy.

Here's my strategy for Julius.

Character:

Riku- Lv 42

Sora- Lv 44

Drop Bonuses:

Riku- Attack (uneccessary), Magic, Drop Gauge Slow

Sora- Magic Lv3, Drop Slow Lv 2, Defense Lv 1

Dream Eaters:

Froot Katz (For Hastes)

Zoluphant (For Water Boosts and HP Boosts)

Tyranto Rex (For Fire Boost)

Deck:

Balloonga

Firaga Burst

Curaga x3

Cura x2 (ran out of Curagas)

Keyblade:

Divewing (Both)

Necessary Abilities:

Once More

Second Chance

Magic Haste (Max Preferably)

Reload Boost (or Haste, can't remember name)

Dark Roll/Slide Roll

High Jump

Doubleflight

Leaf Bracer

Strategy:

Offense:

If you're not at 1 HP, stay low so that Reload Boost can reload your commands more quickly.

Riku- Roll near Julius and cast Ballonga on him. Roll away and then High Jump -> Doubleflight and cast Firaga Burst. Both attacks leave you vulnerable for repercussion, so Dodge Away ASAP. Doubleflight allows some of his attacks to miss during Firaga Burst. If you get hit during attacking, don't panic, just use Cura/Curaga.

Sora- Roll near Julius and cast Ballonga on him. Roll away and then High Jump and cast Firaga Burst. Both attacks leave you vulnerable for repercussion, so Dodge Away ASAP. If you get hit during attacking, don't panic, just use Cura/Curaga.

Defense:

Roll. Roll. Roll. No really, Rolling is your friend here. It can dodge almost any of his attacks if you're careful. If he jumps on a building, he then body slams the ground in an almost unavoidable fashion. It's dodge-able, but play it safe and stay on a Cure spell in case he hits you. If you fall to 1 HP, heal immediately. The invincibility the Cure provides allows Sora/Riku to survive most assaults. If you're getting pummeled, don't do anything except for Cure, because it will cancel out your Once More/Second Chance.

Halfway through the battle, Julius begins using electric attacks. When lightning rains down, try to dodge, but if you (very likely) get hit, then just mash on the Cure button. You may get knocked there again, so keep your Cures in queue. If he hits you with a Lightning attack, you may have a command blocked. To prevent all your Curagas or offensive Spells from being disabled, switch to Cura and just dodge until his hands stop lighting up. If you get hit, switch back to the disabled spell (after healing if low) and stay on it so as not to lose your other ones.

Variations:

Technically, using all Curas could be better, because they reload faster and the goal isn't to restore more health, just to have more than 1 HP. In theory, Cure would work too.

Extra Balloongas could replace Cures to speed up your offense.

The most important Dream Eaters give you Hastes, so any others are preference.

I've only tried it with the Divewing, but I guess others could work.

Better Dive Boosts could speed up victory, but aren't necessary.

I've heard that Sora's Superglide is great for dodging, but I haven't unlocked it yet.

I've heard Riku's Meteor Crash can speed up the offense, but I haven't unlocked it yet.

I pretty much did no special preparations... It was the poor man's attempt. I hope I helped!

I did it with unbound and firaga burst and meteor smash thingy.

  • 3 weeks later...

Killing it with Riku: first time after got 100% max HP

Killing it with Sora: 1000 tries

I just beat him with sora. I got him down to his last 2 bars and then he got stuck near that building! I freed him with baloonga and then took him out!
