The keyblade is the one that sets the heart free if turned into a heartless.

They reform back into humans and/or Heartless i think.

Yes, I think it was explained in KHI, or possibley II. Which is why have Donald and Goofy (and other side characters) fight heartless never made any sense to me.

I think it was explained in 358/2 Days and i think that the Allies just make things easier for Sora and others when fighting Heartless.

Its explained in days, thats why they needed Roxas/Xion.

Donald and Goofy were just helping, think of how many times they acctually had the finishing blow maybe just a few times, but other than that, the keyblade was killing them.
