So, I've been thinking about getting FF XIII-2 since there is a high chance of a FF XIII-3. But the thing that turns me off about getting it is the gameplay, the fact that Noel and Serah are the only playable characters and the only way to have a bigger party is by capturing monsters, a little bit of the story, and the fact that there are multiple endings. I REALLY hate games with multiple endings. And I have a good readon why, too:

1. Games with multiple endings tend to have fan service in most of the "endings".

2. They screw up the story.

3. Most endings make no sense at all.

If you've played games like Shadow the Hedgehog, Star Fox: Command, or any other game with multiple endings. Then you'd know why I hate games with more than one ending. But, anyway, I am willing to make this an exception if FF XIII-2 is worthy enough to play dispite that.

So, is the game good in terms of story & gamrplay? Or no? Because I hear XIII-2 has a worse stpry than XIII. Which kinda turns me off from buying it.

The gamepkay, and in my opinion, story are definitely a major step up from XIII. Only major issue is the ending.

I'll have to agree with baylaust. I found this game much better than 13, but that ending. It wasn't all that good and i found the dlc made it worst

I don't feel 13-2 is worth the 50 hours that 13 was. They completely butchered what could have been a good sequel.

In my opinion, 13-2 was better that 13, and the multiple endings are just "what ifs". There is only one real ending

13-2 is a pretty good game. The story can be a bit hard to follow at times, but hey you're a Kingdom Hearts fan so I'm sure you'll be fine. But, Noel's backstory is amazing and the multiple endings are hardly a big deal. They have such little impact on the actual ending that all that matters is just going for the regular ending.

XIII-2 was way better than XIII, but the ending was tragically sad. I only like cheerful endings like in the first game.

Gameplay-wise, XIII-2 >>>> XIII. Story wise, there are no winners. :l

There's only one actual ending. The others are just paradoxes.

I haven't got the game yet so I can't really say anything about the gameplay, but the story is amazing. The ending will make you demand XIII-3 immediately tho.

Yeah I saw the ending. I know the entire story of XIII and XIII-2. I was just thinking about getting it

Gameplay wise, XIII-2 was superior, but I loved XIII's story.

The multiple endings are explained and not cannon. Each one is a paradox, basically a "what if?" They don't affect the story at all and serve as yeah, fanservices of sorts. They are unique to unlock, so it's like beating Sephiroth for a Keyblade in KH- you already have the Ultima Weapon, but you want to be a completionist and experience new trials.

I just read this review about FF XIII and XIII-2. It's really good, and embodies practically all that I feel.

XIII-2 is an actual Final Fantasy game

As for your complaints about multiple endings... Chrono Trigger

Noel is great. Vote for him on my poll! But seriously, characters like Hope and Noel and Lightning and Hope make your heart just feel for them.

I laughed when Serah was stabbed by Caius, but when she actually died a felt shocked. What game does that? I had been bashing Serah's stupidity when the game first came out in Japan, and it took me till she died on my PS3 for me to realize I cared for her. Especially looking at the way she died, it was such a beautiful scene.

For those who complain about the ending, you're right in the sense that it was inconclusive, but that's what it's supposed to be. It's a set up for the sequel. And you cannot say that Serah's death was random and uncalled for; it was hinted at since New Bodhum when she began having the visions!

Here's a line in that article that I found particularly moving:

A virtue that I believe nearly all fans of Final Fantasy XIII hold is patience. Patience was required to become engaged in XIII’s story. But if you stuck with it, XIII became a beautiful tale of friendship and determination that taught us to never give up hope. Patience was required to fully understand XIII-2’s story – we had to wait nearly 4 months for the final DLC. And while this DLC offered no resolution, it did offer hope. The action of the DLC mirrors the game’s situation as a whole. Serah is gone, and yet she still urges Lightning to not give up hope. There is no resolution to be found in Final Fantasy XIII-2, but we cannot give up hope. Serah chooses to not give into despair because she knows Lightning can save the world. She believes in her sister. Despite all of the obstacles, all of the questions, all of the missed opportunities, Serah will not give up on Lightning. And we must do the same.

It would of been excellent if they didn't screw it up with the ending. *sigh * Here's hoping that Light Returns is going to be better. I would rent it.
