Sorry if I seem pissed off. Please excuse my slight pessimism if it tends to slip out.

BTW, if this should go in Personal, then anyone's obliged to move it. I really don't know if this belongs here or not....but screw it, I'm already here...so oh well.

Anyways, don't mind me as I practice this for a future anime club debate I hope to participate in...(clears throat)

For those of who are frequent anime/manga fans (and there are a few of you on here), you're probably familiar with the concept of filler. Filler in anime (and rarely, manga) is basically plot points or events that occur in the timeline for two main reasons: One ( the reason I like), to expand upon certain things in the story, like characters, events, and etc. Number two (the bullshit reason (oh-ho....get ready for that pessimism...), is because the goddamn writer can't DRAW fast enough....so he/she has a team of writers assigned to the animation studio make up shit for an episode(s) of the anime, while said writer continues the plot of the manga....or some shit. They could takin' days off for all we know! :angry:

(sigh)....So, now you probably know my stand on filler, huh? Yep, I can't STAND the shit! It's basically stalling us from what the hell is supposed to be going on and throwing in something else, i-i-it's stupid!

You want an example you say? DragonBall F**king Z! That show is literally BURSTING with pointless shit: characters standing around, havin' staring contests, overdone power up scenes, random crap thrown into the sequence of events....(sighs) It's unbearable, really. I mean, you all know DragonBall has a special place in my heart as my favorite series...but...ugh....now that I've looked at all that went on....and now that I've seen DragonBall Kai....oh shit....but you already know this, right? Remember DragonBall Shinsei? Yeah. That's my answer right there. Just that. Explains my entire case right there.

Now, I'd say something about Bleach, but....screw it. That's even worse....just no.

But I will say somethin' 'bout that there Naruto! Oh-ho, where to start.....oh, I know, how about the last 80 frickin episodes of Part I? GODDAMMIT.....I mean, you guys there, the ones who are already giving me the death stare, first off let me remind you again that this is my opinion...IMO...just Super Saiyan....and second, let me explain a little more about my viewpoint....

I don't believe that filler can be considered part of the series. I just can't. Sure, it can ARGUED that some filler is important....what with character development and added scenes and stuff we proably should have seen in the manga and all....but-but one thing about the last 80 episodes, ONE THING that never fails to be piss me off.....It's filler. Definition no canon whatsoever! Furthermore: no character development! Do you understand, you fliipin people out there that defend the arcs like motherf**kers?! "Oh, It gives the supporting cast more character development. They have more developement here than the actual series." Bull....ass.....shit. You want my definition? Screen-time. Plain and simple. None of the "underused" characters change or develop in any way....all they do is get more time to show off their quirky-ass personalities and get some fights in. THAT'S IT. Seriously: Ino was still anorexic, Shikamaru was still lazy, Shino was still forever alone, Hinata still can't grow a pair and get with Naruto, Rock Lee is goofy as hell, TenTen hasn't done jackshit....nothing. Nothing's changed. We just get to see 'em more. No "development" whatsoever. That's what makes me mad: people defend this like it's an essential part of the series; there are so many of these Kishimoto haters out there who bash him for leaving these characters in the dust. You know what I say? Ha-ha....TOUGH GRAPES! It's a supporting cast, man! They're weren't meant to that important. Sure, we gotta give 'em personalites and depth and all that, but at the end of the day....come on. The show's called Naruto. Not Naruto and Friends. Focus on him more, and don't worry about the other guys; they get enough anyway! There's no need to give a supporting character all the bells and whistles! They are FINE. I don't expect these characters to be woven into the story0-line as tightly as Naruto or even Sasuke....and that's fine. You all might say different, but hey, go ahead and whine. I'll be over here enjoying the damn series.

(Side Note: If you love these characters so much, then there's two things you can do. One: write a fanfic. Two: Hope that my Naruto Shinsei idea flies and that we get some new OVAs starring your favorite Naruto characters. Your welcome)

And-and-and another thing: just so you know....one thing I excuse from the bullshit I view as filler is when shit happens that is actually enjoyable. Garlic Jr.Saga in DragonBall Z....Mizuki Strikes Back Arc in Naruto....Episode 279 of Naruto Shippuuden..... Admitingly, characters get shit for dick as far as relevancy comes anyway, so at least there's a valid reason for dedicating episodes or arcs to 'em. You see, it's excusable when its not random (i.e. if it wanted to, it could be canon) and is not some comedy hour or some shit (i.e. newest episode of Shippuuden (-__-, Allied Shinobi Mom Force? Sumo wrestlers? REALLY?! The only thing worth watching that shit is Konohamru's Rasengan. THAT'S IT.) .....But another note, even though I just said that, I'd like it even better....if they kept good ideas like this, and put them into movies or OVAs (so the series' anime doesn't get clustered, good ideas or not) because those are the only two things I can tolerate stuff like this. Let me remind you that anime movies are for shits and giggles and the writer can do whatever the f**k he wants with 'em, as long as they don't blow. Also, OVAs are used to expand on canon thing......so yeah, Kishimoto, give us some stories 'bout the things the cast did during the Time Skip! Hell, I'll even take a peak at Naruto's training. That shit be kinda cool, even!

And even though I berated the DragonBall Z anime moments ago, I'll give it a pro with this: the extension on the fights was okay (at some levels) because there were a lot of moments I enjoyed (Piccolo VS 17? Hell f**king yeah.) So yeah, I'll give you that, too. Plus the Gregory stuff, just cuz Toriyama wanted to add him anyway for shits and giggles....I mean, it's not like Goku's training got less stupid, so why the hell not? lol.

You see, it's all about execution. In my perfect anime/manga world, I'd have all these writers finish their damn manga BEFORE they start an anime. That's the most simplest way to ease up, aint it? Really, why do anime and manga continue to run side by side if they have to continue this bullshit cycle? Lordy lordy lord....

Well, I'm about done, I think. If you wanna give some insight or try and convert me, go ahead and try. Oh, and please, don't write me off as a jerkoff again. Please....I'm just trying to speak my mind here. I'm not shitting in no ones weenies. ITS OPINION....

I agree I like filler that developes a character, Hitman Reborn is a great eample of this, but the other kind.... COUGH bleach has lots of this filler COUGH

EXACTLY what Kishimoto coulda done after 135....but no. He lets it go on pointlessly until the 220 mark, and then, at the end, FINALLY he leaves the village. -__-

 

I-I'm scared here. I really am. Because I just thought of something.....how does anyone expect to buy their product knowing they gotta buy the series AND the extra baggage?

 

I mean, Toriyama was smart. He thought up DragonBall Kai. And I can easily buy the series completely, knowing that it follows the manga religously, and even though Buu's not in there....eh, the series wasn't even supposed to live past Saiyan Saga, so at this point, I don't care. lol. It'd be nice to see Buu....but for that we can only hope that DBK gets uncanceled at some point in the future. And why shouldn't it be? It's Toriyama-sama's favorite arc! (Did I just use a suffix? 0-0 Weeaboo alert.)

 

And as for Naruto....eh. That'd be easy. Naruto Kai all the way. Kishimoto: finish up, take a break, then give us a big-ass fanservice with NK and we can all move on.Or, of course, my Shinsei ideas could get a shot.....heh-heh....

 

In any case, I think there's a big problem with how the cycle works and it should be rectified.

Most of the time I strongly dislike filler. If they actually do a good job on it and make it good then I could be ok with it. Otherwise, it is pretty annoying.

Well, you should have read on to find that I said DragonBall was my favorite series. I only meant to use "F**king" as a exaggeration of the fact that this was the most obvious series to use as an example. Look, I don't have the cleanest mouth, so sorry If my language "offends" you in anyway...but this is how it is. In fact, you should read on, because I have more to say beyond that...and I posted this because of the sole fact that I wanted to give my fullest opinion and quite frankly, the fact that you stopped reading and commented as such (^^^).... whelp, that makes me feel insulted...

Filler arcs are like, the root of all evil. I used to love watching Naruto and Bleach but somewhere I just got tired of the endless filler arcs and the episodes being dragged on ruining the climax the arc. It's much easier to just read the manga once a week...anyways, I do realize there's a problem when the anime catches up to the manga but it seems like that can't be helped. I can only hope that when an anime gets made they let the manga get realllly far ahead of the anime. Seriously, I think shows like Tegami Bachi shouldn't be made so soon when the manga comes out monthly.

Can't believe I forgot about this but.....Naruto: Shippudden!!! -___- In reality....much worse than Part 1...

 

I mean, shit, not only were the fillers themselves mostly stupid (I excuse Naruto's wind training and the Tailed Beast searching and sealing because that sounds like'd make sense. Everything else...BLEH. In fact, why wasn't stuff like that in the manga?), but they ran for SO frickin long....and they even had the audacity (the animators I mean) to mix in this bullshit with canon material. Thank GOD that only lasts for so long....ugh.....

 

And even now, they're startin' the filler shit again! 279 was the last canon episode, people. 280? Filler. Though, I'll admit, that episode was entertaining. Yes, I actually watched it....something about it screamed canon for some reason, idk....but, I guess it was cool to see some Team Kurenai action....and some Hinata blushing. lol. She is so cute....but anyways, I'll give that one a pass.

 

And as for 280?! Uh, well, it's not exactly better....I mean its just like "here comes Deidara"! And then its like "there goes Deidara...." -__-.....the perfect example of a filler: it happened, but then it didn't happen. lol. I actually haven't seen this one in full, but if there's some good action in it, then somebody tell me....
