Feminist Frequency Discusses The Hunger Games trilogy, the movie and Katniss Everdeen.

After watching both of these videos, I definitely agree with both of them for the most part in pretty much every way. I will say that in terms of the violence, the way they handled it in the movie overall hurt the experience in my opinion, since most of the horror of what is supposed to make us despise and hate the Capitol for what they are making these children do is covered in shaky cam and quick cuts so you don't notice it. Instead of feeling sympathy or a reason to want the villain to fall, I felt nauseous.

But overall, makes several good points and I agree with her on pretty much everything. Particularily on how much weaker the later two books were to not only Katniss's character, but the plot and series as a whole.

I still haven't gotten around to reading/watching the Hunger Games, but even without it, the basic premise has always bothered me, and this video touched on it briefly.

It's meant to create a realistic "What if?" scenario for a future run by businesses... but still uses the faces of children in all the cheap and cliche ways.

It's part of the reason I'm hesitant to start reading it; I feel like I'd be constantly distracted by the teenage pandering

I can't watch the video on this browser, but I agree completely with what you said.

Book 1: Strong Katniss, great story.

Book 2: Weak Katniss, great story

Book 3: Useless Katniss, lackluster story

If you ever do come to reading it, I suggest only reading the first book like she mentioned above, as it's the only one worth reading.

Catching Fire was good even though it was starting a stronger love triangle =w=.

but Mockingjay can go die... it was a terrible book and was monotonous to read

I know right?

The third book had such terrible characters and predictable story.

And I was sick of hearing Katniss whining every page and them always saying something about "the mission", Peeta, or the capital every 5 seconds
