You know, I think Namco Bandai should make a sequel to Tales of the Abyss. that's like one of my favorite PS2 games and i think it would be cool if they made sequel or something. Does anyone else here think they should make a sequel? In my opinion I think that would be pretty cool to see Luke and co. again. I know Namco wouldn't probably think about doing it but still. Luke is one of my favorite Tales of characters in the series.

Yeah the next game would have me as the main character instead of in one of your games lol.

(we agree 100%) Sonic.Tails.Sync.Tear. weird.....

I loved Abyss to death (as my avatar shows) and I have pondered on the notion of a sequel before. I have come to a conclusion that a sequel might not work out too well*. Ending and side quest spoilers follow:

The end was intentionally left open ended. The fact is, we don't know who came back at the end. There is evidence for it being Luke, evidence for it being Asch, evidence for it being a fusion of the two, and I've seen very well thought out arguments for all of these options. Creating a sequel would have set in stone who it was at the end, and that likely wouldn't go over too well.

Besides that, I just don't know what further they could do with the plot. The only of the antagonists from Abyss left alive is Dist, and he just isn't "big bad" material. Mohs is dead, and if Anise's plans have any bearing on what happens, the Order of Lorelei will no longer be antagonistic. The miasma problem has been neutralized. It is too early for Malkuth and Kimlasca to go to war again, and the game party (all of whom were either nobility or soldiers, and saved the world on top of it) wouldn't allow it to happen.

Plus, now that I think about it, the Planet Storm was stopped, so that should canonically mean that Fonic Artes should get weaker. Battles would be comprised of melee fighting and weak spells.

Of course, there could definitely be ways to work around what I just described (except for the first part), but it would be as sensitive business.

*A prequel could work really well. Maybe during the Dawn Age. I would miss the original cast though.

EDIT:

I must admit something, I got a bit excited when I saw the title of the thread. Though, I figured that it was a speculation type thread as I clicked on it.

I think a sequel would be pretty great! :D

Tales of Abyss is without doubt amazing game, but I really don't know about sequel.. The ending was good and it wrapped up the story. I prefer to see all new Tales games rather than sequels. For example Xillia 2 wasn't all that great and I don't think it was all important to make that game.
