Brand new trailer for the new game called Disney Infinity, apparently anything Disney you can think of is in this mash-up game. The idea is similar to that of the toybox mode in Toy Story 3 The Video Game. Where you make everything and just have fun basically. I'm looking forward to it mainly because I am a huge Disney fan. Anyone else?

The only downside I have is it seems to be Skylanders-esque with the playsets. But eh.

.... is this meant to be the "big title" they mentioned announcing this year a while back?

it looks alright but I personally wouldn't want to use a doll to play a video game.

Disney is been working a lot on games like this. I'm not really into them to give a more deep opinion, but it seems a lot like Disney Universe. At least the gameplay. Of course this time it's the characters themselves, but doesn't seem anything that new...

Seriously Disney focus on Kingdom Hearts! It could really use more help and attention

Should have been Chernabog at the end instead of Zurg, but it looks cool.

This looks to be a little bit inspired by the Toy Story 3 toy box which is pretty good imo.

Disney, if you include everyone from Oswald to Ralph, then I'll be happy. If not, go help out with Kingdom Hearts for once.

Some info I found:

Today executives at Disney Interactive finally pulled back the curtain on Disney Infinity, a sprawling gaming initiative which brings together the Disney and Pixar universes from the past, present and future.

Hollywood’s El Capitan Theater was the scene for an intimate look at Disney Infinity. The interior was adorned with groups of characters from different Disney universes mingling together: Mr. Incredible and Dash with Jack Skellington, Captain Jack Sparrow alongside Mike Wazowski and Phineus and Ferb. Several members of the press indeed whispered “Disney Skylanders!” after seeing this display.

That was, until the presentation kicked off.

While I originally speculated that Disney Infinity would be inspired bySkylandersthe simple truth is that Activision and Toys For Bob need to go back to the drawing board.

“Disney Infinity is a platform that will grow and diversify. It will be global and live across all platforms: Console, mobile, and online.” ~ John Pleasants, Co-President of Disney Interactive.

John Lasseter, chief creative officer at Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios, originally met with game developer Avalanche Studios during production of the Toy Story 3 film. They pitched him a concept that involved a companion video game with a split personality: One half would follow the storyline of Toy Story 3, and the other half — a virtual toybox — would enable users to creatively play with the myriad of Toy Story characters.

Disney Infinity takes this concept and injects it with steroids, ambition, and irresistible retail appeal.

“It’s like Andy [from Toy Story]  – he’s got this toy box full of toys and they all come together to play in a very creative way,” Lasseter explained to attendees including press, retail and distribution partners, and Disney’s official fan club D23.

In a nutshell, Disney Infinity is rooted in the Skylanders model. A base allows you to transport figurines and “power discs” into the game worlds, but the worlds themselves are sprawling environments that encompass both a traditional “story” mode, and an open-world toy box.

When the “game” (I use this description very loosely and without insult) launches this June, it will ship with 3 playsets: Monsters University, Pirates of the Caribbean, and The Incredibles. Each set will contain figurines from the respective films and tell an original story. But here’s where things get exciting: There’s an entirely separate Toy Box component that allows players to build their Superhero Headquarters, customize the Black Pearl and its cannons and crew, and effectively create entire worlds that can be shared (after they’re moderated) globally with other players.

Moreover, each play set distinguishes itself with gameplay that compliments the characters. The Incredibles, for example, is centered around combat. Dash can sprint and execute melee combos, Mrs. Incredible will attack with moves that emphasize her stretch ability. On the Pirates side, 50% of the game involves exploring an open sea with Jack Sparrow, and the other portion plays up swordfighting and the series’ inherent humor.

Each figurine — which, like Skylanders, can internally store progress and settings — comes with a separate “Adventure” for use in the Toy Box. Additionally, players will be able to transport vehicles and mounts from the game world into the open world toy box.

This is only the proverbial tip of the iceberg, and I have a metric ton of information yet to share. Watch this space for an interview with Disney’s John Pleasants, as well as a detailed preview of all 3 launch games in the next few days.

Fun Fact: Avalanche also developed Just Cause 2, still heralded as one of the best open-world games from this generation.

Know this: Disney has properties like Marvel and Star Wars that I’m confident will attach to this gaming initiative eventually. Plus, it’s something Disney can easily market on its cruises, television channels, radio programs, and theme parks. From everything I’ve seen, it’s not a matter of Disney Infinity becoming a success, but rather how massive a success.

Disney Infinity launches June 2013, globally, for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3,Nintendo Wii, Wii U, 3DS, PC, and mobile.

I'm really hyped for this. Will probably buy all the figures. My poor wallet...
