Resident Evil Needs to Be Scary Again!

Posted

I miss the old Resident Evil games back when they were scary and you would get that feeling that something might pop out at you or chase you. And I miss the atmosphere that you get from the games too. I must say I hate the new RE games because they are mostly action and not "survival horror" like they should be. I mean back in the day I used to like the name "Resident EVil" a lot more than the Japanese name "Biohazard" because of the game's atmosphere and horror but now I can't call the new ones "Resident Evil" because they are just full of action I prefer to call them "Biohazard" because they involve more biohazard outbreaks (okay sure the classic RE games involved that too but you should know what i mean).

but what I'm trying to say is that Crapcom f*cked up Resident Evil. It's not scary  anymore. You never get that feeling that something might come after you while you are running around. And where is the puzzle solving, Crapcom? You used to come up with the most clever puzzles and now look, BARELY any puzzle solving in your new games. Okay, I'll admit that Ada's puzzles were alright but they still don't beat the puzzles from the old RE ganes. Because in the old ones the entire game was a puzzle, itself. I mean let's face it, the only good RE game they mad in a long time is RE: Revelations.

lol Crapcom has just been screwing up their well beloved series so much lately. But I agree, I played RE5 and RE6 and it's just like...what happened? It's just an action game now D:<<

I recommend you to turn to Frictional Games' side. Their horror games are the best you can find today. Lot of puzzles and the scariest atmosphere you can get in games.

I agree with you, RE6 and RE5 weren't scary games. However I had lot of fun with RE5, I liked the melee system and mercenaries and it was overall fun experience with friend, but RE6 butchered all those little things that saved RE5 for me.. And no Leon's storyline is not scary, it is just boring and filled with quicktime events.

Resident evil franchise = Friday the 13th movie franchise

It's what I think it is to be honest. =/

i agree 5 and 6 felt only like an action game. Revelations for the 3ds is scarier then both those games though.

I'm not one for most horror games, but I've seen this argument before so I guess most fans feel that way:

Resident Evil 4 also attempted to redefine the survival horror genre by emphasizing reflexes and precision aiming,[157] thus broadening the gameplay of the series with elements from the wider action game genre.[158] However, this also led some reviewers to suggest that the Resident Evil series had abandoned the survival horror genre,[159][160] by demolishing the genre conventions that it had established.

I couldn't agree more, I loved it when they were scary. I still love them even though they're action-y  though. One of my favorite series. There's been rumors that RE 1.5 might be released which was a project stored away back then :3
