Fairy Tail: Subs and Dubs Discussion

Posted

So the argument is fairly obvious and down to personal preference in the case of Subs vs Dubs. But what if we pin this to a specific anime?

I have lost my cool and gone on a search for an english dub of season 2 of Fairy Tail. Having loved the first season, and not being able to stand subs, I just couldn't help myself..... However, these new voices for the characters..... I'm wondering after 12 episodes if subs may actually be more bearable! It seriously sounds like they hve a cast made up of maybe 5 or 6 people to do this, not to mention the poor quality of the recordings.

Hence the poll. Do you prefer subbed or dubbed Fairy Tail in S01, same again in S02. It will be interesting to see if other people experience a change in preference also depending upon the anime in question

Anyone else in a similar position, or totally disagree (please no 'pro subs' crap like 'should always watch subs anyway')

Subs are miles better then Dubs when it comes to fairy tail voice characters are much better not dubbed i watch episode 1 and 2 dubbed to see what they were like with the voice characters and i got to say i just really dont like them voice characters for the English version you get a much better experiance in total if ya stick with subs

i ended up preferring sub over dub because the characters sound so much better in japanese, especially happy

Subs all the way, the dubs for Fairy Tail are horrible, though Bleach has good dubs.

I've never watched Fairy Tale passed the first episode, since it didn't really catch my interest too much, but me personally only listen to dubs whenever I watch any anime. If it doesn't have a dubbed version, or if it's no very good, then I don't watch it. Why? Because I speak English. Not to be racist, but I just can't seem to listen to every episode of a show in a language I don't even understand unless subtitles are on. Why watch somethig where I have to read what's happening? If I wanted to do that I'd read a book, or the manga versions. Having to read the subtitles draws my attention away from the characters, which I don't like. That's my two cents.

I watched the subs and got curious about what the dubs were like... My ears exploded. It was HORRIBLE especially happy and lucy. Gray sounds like an old man. Really wasnt impressed :)

It's funny you say that, I liked Happy's voice in S01 after I'd gotten used to it. However, it just doesn't seem like the Happy I've grown to love in the subs.... So next to no dub watchers of Fairy Tail here, eh?

Vazquez! Good to see you active again! And a fan of Fairy Tail. We Grey Knights are indeed bonded in good taste!

Sub. Funimation uses the same voice actors so much I had to take a break from them and watch the sub version.

Really? For every dub they do for each anime they use the same cast?

Peoples! Does anyone know how many episodes Animax had dubbed so far? I've watched to episode 95 and I am worried that the end of S02 may be the end of the dubs..... Also, I heard rumours that Funimation are dubbing the next 24 episodes after 48.... any idea if these are true?

Check the cast when you watch Funimation dubs. Guess they save money that way.

Wierd, only doing half a season.... any idea on a release date for those? Also, any idea on the Animax progress? FairyTailHQ.tv is playing up for me so I don't know if there is anything beyond ep 100
