Meet Myo: Ushering in a new era of motion control

Posted

https://getmyo.com/

Myo is a high tech wristband that measures electrical impulses in your muscles. Allowing for motion control that does not require bulky cameras and sensors that are prone to interference and damage.

As the website and the demonstration video on the website show, Myo can be used for controlling a wide array of tasks, from games to watching videos, controlling vehicles and more.

What do you guys think about this? If they take this technology far enough it might obsolete hundreds of things.

wow, just wow

I think many advancements and tragedies will come out of this.

"Unleash your inner Jedi." Definitely looks awesome, but can it stand up against Nintendo's Power Glove?

Was this made before or after the Ps4 pulse?

Just... yes. Do want. o.o

I mean the entire world is just getting lazier and lazier with all these new technologies, but I guess this one just makes things simpler, so that's cool.

Though I can genuinely see Wall•E being the new Mayan 'Calendar' at this rate. We are so gonna end up like that, even if not in our lifetime...

Last I heard the PS4 Pulse was just a prototype. This looks like it's ready for retail. They were probably being developed simultaneously.

Sensors indicate sarcasm, but I can't blame you. The entire history of motion control has been extremely gimmicky. Considering that this is a technology designed for things other than games, it might be more practical, but only time will tell.

Can't say for certain, though the two are very different technologies. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the PS4 Pulse still relies on cameras and laser based sensors to recieve information. Myo actually reads the electrical signals inside your body. Both are very cool, but very different technologies.

Part of what makes us Human is our ability to make tools. No other species can do that, that is why we came out on top. We're probably not going to wind up like the people in Wall-E though. Even if technology is making us lazier, surely medical advances would help alleviate the obesity epidemic.

Ah, probably.

No idea. But if that's true, the Myo sounds much more awesome.
