RetroN 4 or as it is now known: RetroN 5

Posted

For those who don't know, RetroN is a series of consoles by Hyperkin combining old (retro *wink wink*) game consoles into one at a lower price. Hyperkin has now announced the RetroN 4. So far a few details for it have already been revealed:

  • It will play NES, SNES, GBA and Sega Genesis games
  • The system will output in HDMI
  • The Perdana operating system  will allow users to switch systems and reassign controller buttons
  • As with the previous RetroNs it will have a slot for a game of each system to be inserted (in this case 4 slots)
  • Two controller ports for each system (except for the gba most likely)
  • It will come with a bluetooth controller
  • And it is compatible with both PAL and NTSC

The RetroN 4 will be officially unveiled at the Midwest Gaming Classic trade show.

That's actually really cool!

Awesome! I still have my Nes (Oh Zelda golden cartridges, I love thee), Snes, Gba but sadly my Sega Genesis stopped working many years ago, thanks to Sonic and Dr. Robotnik.

Sounds pretty sweet, but I already have all the originals xD But the HDMI output sounds really cool

So updating this for a few reasons.

One as you can see in the title the system was renamed to the RetroN 5. Hyperkin is taking things a step futher. Instead of 4 consoles in one the system is now NINE consoles in one.

Yes. It will play NES, famicom, SNES, Super Famicom, Genesis, Gameboy, Gameboy advance, gameboy color and mega drive catridges. so...wow. Like the RetroN 4 would have been, the RetroN 5 will be compatible with NTSC and PAl catridges. It supports 720p. It will have two controller ports for SNES, NES and Genesis totaling 6 controller ports. Don't forget you can use any controller for any game. Like for example a NES controller for a Genesis game. The RetroN 5's wireless Bluetooth controller will allow for 15 feet playing distance. It has led indicators to display the player's number and a Microswitch directional pad instead of a traditional d-pad. Much like current consoles the RetroN has a user interface upon turning it on. Unlike the RetroN 4 where you have to turn a nob to choose the console you're going to play you simply pick from the user interface. It will have a save state and load state ability for any game and will automatically save your game upon shutdown. You can reassign buttons and also use cheat codes for the games. The feature to speed up or slow down the game's speed will also be available.

That's about all the images I can fit on here due to image limits. See the rest at http://hyperkin.com/blog/2013/03/retron-5-details-revealed-from-the-midwest-gaming-classic/

So this is probably one of the most amazing things I've seen in a while and wow. I'm definitely going to be buying this.
