Disney are shutting down their LucasArts games publishing subsidiary, according to a Game Informer report. A LucasArts representative informed the website:

 

“After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games. As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles.”

 

Meanwhile, Kotaku report that Star Wars 1313 and Star Wars: First Assault, two LucasArts games that were in development, have been cancelled, and around 150 people laid off.

Just remember LucasArts does not equal LucasFilms. So we still have the new movie trilogy to look forward to. (With lots of singing and dancing and brightly colored talking animals)

Nobody cares about the films when there aren't new Kick-Ass Games about them >_> Why the hell, we had finally hopes for Battlefront 3 and now it'll never happen. Now my hopes for good Movie Sequels are also gone.A dark future lies in front of us. A very, very dark future

To be fair, Lucas Arts hasn't made anything good, let alone not total garbage since the Force Unleashed. 

 

The company has been dying for years now, it's good Disney decided to put it down. The talent the group once had has left a long time ago. 

 

It's golden age ended with the current generation of consoles and gaming tech, it's been slowly bleeding, got revived for a second and until Disney put it down, has been left on the side of the road to die horrible and grusomely. 

 

This was a mercy kill if anything. Anyone who has seen the amazing things that Lucas Arts has done in it's early and mid history, compared to the absolute shit they have been spewing out in their last few years will agree that the right thing has been done.

when was this said?  the IP belongs to Disney now, meaning that more could be made.  They have made no announcements on the future of that.
