Forums for Single-Player Games vs. Multi-player Game Forums

Posted

Just a random thing I was thinking about,

On the internet, I see a bit more forums for single player games(KH) than I do for multiplayer games(Call of Duty). So I'm wondering if that's because that players already have ways to discuss the game their currently playing while they're playing it or forums aren't as useful for those who play multiplayer games.

So basically what I want to know from those who play the online games like Call of Duty, or even MMOs like League of Legends, do you guys even pay attention to forums for those kind of games or do you have everything you need while you're playing the game to the point where it's own kind of community and forums aren't needed?

I think the forum for multiplayer games is really just youtube and livestreaming websites.

edit: also there are a lot of small communities mostly based around specific multiplayer servers and clans on the pc. EX: minecraft, call of duty, battlefield, basically all mmorpgs

I play mostly multiplayer games but I don't use any game forums of them.

It depends on the franchise of multiplayer game. A lot of RTS games have forums, where people can discuss strategies and the such, as well as piece together campaigns. I'm inclined to believe that MMOs would have the same sort of thing going, where you need to talk with people in order to get party members, get tips, etc.  I imagine FPS don't have as many of these forums if only because the style of gameplay seems to be more focused on individual achievement, rather than community. Of course, I could be full of hot air on this one.

Well Multi-player games already allow you to communicate with who you're playing with as you go, you will find people who share the same interest in the game since you're both playing it.  Kingdom Hearts doesn't allow this so to find like minded people you'd end up on forums like this.

Trust me, there are a lot more forums for multiplayer games than singleplayer ones, and they tend to be a lot larger and more active.

Most singleplayer game forums don't reach the activity comparable to a multiplayer game. KH13 is a major exception because it fills a niche that the dozens of other Kingdom Hearts websites didn't have, which was being a KH website that wasn't absolute shit to put it politely.
