I woke up in the streets of Shibuya. My head was pounding. How did I get here? I wondered to myself. I went back over everything that had happened. Today was my fifteenth birthday. I was going to Mr. Hanekoma's coffee shop. What next, though? The people around me were talking. Laughing. Making noise. I slipped my headphones over my ears and turned up my music to drown them out, and continued thinking. Suddenly, I remembered my encounter with that strange man who called himself the Conductor. "Hikari Sakuraba, you are dead." he told me. How did I die? I couldn't remember. He told me I was in the Reaper's Games. What are the Reaper's Games anyway? Those questions raced through my head, then I remembered something else he'd told me. I needed a partner. I looked around frantically, trying to find anyone to team up with. I got the feeling that this could mean life or death. "Hey, does anyone want to partner up!?" I shouted out loud, hoping someone would respond. I realized that if I was dead, only other players could probably see me. I needed to find one before it was too late...

I shut up, not wanting to cause too large of an argument. After all, I needed to trust this girl, right? I pulled my headphones back on and listened to my music as I chased after Kay, trying not to fall behind. 104 loomed just ahead, it seemed like we'd make it after all... I hoped the other players were getting along well with their own partners.

I looked at the timer on my hand "Hurry up! We already wasted time with those noises"

After a while, we finally made it to 104. I glanced at my hand, and noticed the timer was gone. After sighing in relief, I removed my headphones and looked at Kay. "We made it! We survived the first day! Let's hope the other 6 days will be this easy..." I said in excitement at our victory. 

 

(Quick note: I know that technically everyone should be good when one pair completes a mission, but to finish starting things up, and to allow some interaction between teams if wanted, I'm going to have the mission continue until everyone's made it to 104.)

"Yeah... I don't want to think about that, though..." I replied to her first comment. "It's great that we survived, though! I'd imagine the other teams are almost here..." I shook my head "Don't apologize... I was the one acting up" I just shrugged looking at her "But its alright though" I nudged at her shoulder then put on a grin putting my hand behind my head "Soo what now? Just wait?" I squatted down to the ground

I smiled. "Heh, Alright." I looked up at the 104 building. It always amazed me for some reason, I was never sure why... "Well, I guess that's all we have to do here... Maybe we can talk with some other players when they get here!" I suggested, excited to meet other new people. Even though this was a dark, horrible event, I was still enjoying it a little... It felt kinda strange.

"Yea, it would be nice to meet other people that can see us" that sentence sounded abit wierd, never in her lifetime would she had ever thought about who couldn't and who could see her.

I started thinking about after these six days were up... What would happen then? Would we be stuck like this forever or would live again? I shook my head again not really wanting these thoughts in her head but they just kept popping up, sighing I got up from squatting down and stretched "So what you wanna talk about now?" I asked letting her choose the topic of her choice.

"Hmm..." I thought for a second. "Do you know anything about our parents and how they knew each other? My father never talked much about it..." I said, wondering myself how they knew each other.

"Uhm let me see here..." I tried searching memories seeing if my dad actually talked about that subject

I shrugged "Im not sure, I never said anything about it because I didn't really care and he didn't have any concern about it" I crossed my arms and looked at the girl beside me then at the ground "I need to stop lying to people so much" I shook my head at the thought, I probably knew something about it but whatever she'll figure it out

"Oh..." I said, in an upset tone. I was hoping to get some answers, but it looked like I wouldn't get any. "So... Do you know anything about the Reaper's Games, anyway? We weren't told too much, were we...?" I said, hoping that she'd know anything about this thing we were thrown into.

Arai smiled at Ray. "Well then Ray, I need a partner. We need to complete missions. That's how we get our lives and entry fees back. At least, that's how I understand it." Arai said, making random had gestures that didn't really illustrate her point at all. She took a quick look at her phone again, and read it out loud. Afterwards, she looked towards Ray, and spoke again. "You wouldn't happen to know where 104 is would you?" Arai asked.

"I use to live here, way back. Or at least I think. If this is Shibuya, I know of three 104's. There is the Subway Platform, the street 104, or the classroom labled 104 at Shibuya High. It's mostlikely the Subway Platform out of the three, but you never know." Ray sighed, a light covered both him and Arai. "Odd. So I guess that means were partners in all this." Out of muscle memory, though, Ray opened the Main Menu from the game. "How... Curious." He selected options and looked around in the menu. "Darn. All my items are gone except my coat and two blades I have never heard of... Well, then. These will do." He selected the two blades, and they appeared on his back, sheathed. They had what looked like slots for something round in the center.

"The Reapers Game is a one-week competition in which those who have died may participate. Every contestant is called a 'Player' and is given a player pin as a sign of his or her entry. To enter in the game every player has to pay an 'entry fee', that is taken by the conductor"

I put my hand on my chin looking at her wondering if she's still listening but I continued anyway "Missions are orders given by the Reapers to players on a day-to-day basis, but they can be issued over a longer period or not be issued at all. If a mission is completed by any team, all Players that survived move onto the next day. However, Players can be erased by Noise or by failing the mission."

I stopped to take a breath then continued on again "After the seven days the players will have to defeat the Game Master. If a player's partner is erased then that person will have seven minutes to form a pact with someone else! The purpose of the Game is to determine who is worthy enough to be rewarded in the afterlife, or to be given a second chance at life..."

I looked closely at the girl making sure she understood everything so I wouldn't have to repeat myself "When and if you win there are options: number 1 is if your weak you'll get erased even if you win some just will get erased on their on freewill, number 2 If anyone were in any illegal activites in the game they would get erased, number 3 You can become a reaper if you want to, number 4 the players can come back to life, which I would recommend if you want your life back, number 5 The absolute best of the Players are given the honor of ascending into the Higher Plane"

I sighed thinking how I knew all of that anyway? "Thats all I know... So did you get all of that or what?" I asked

"Yeah, I think I get it..." I muttered, trying to take it all in. "How did you know so much, though?" I asked Kay, curious as to how she knew so much.

I quickly jumped waving my hands "I I dont know It just was there is all. Heh" I rubbed my head nervously not knowing what I was saying, I sighed looking at her

I gave Kay a weird look. "Right..." I looked off into the distance. "You think anyone else is gonna show up? Time's almost up... Right?" I asked her. I didn't know why I was curious. I had the idea of offering other teams to partner up with us, to make sure we get things done.

I nodded at her "Yea there are more coming but they will be here before time runs out... dont fret!" I put on a ressuring smile then laughed
