Saturday, we reported a story of how Senior Engineer at EA Games, stationed in Cananda, lashed out at Nintendo and the Wii U, calling it “crap” and pointing out how only Nintendo’s own games can possibly make money.
While we wait for EA to officially comment on their employees’ remarks, ZombiU and upcoming Assassin’s Creed IV publisher Ubisoft have emerged with a vote of confidence inNintendo, pledging support from its blockbuster holiday lineup. Speaking to websiteGamesIndustry, a spokesman said all new consoles have a learning curve in the market, and that Ubisoft games should help bring its profile up.
“As with any new console, it takes some time to grow an established base.” the spokesperson said.
“Ubisoft has a varied and high-quality line-up for Wii U, with more big titles on the way including Rayman Legends, Watch_Dogs, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Splinter Cell Blacklist. We’re confident that this will help in continuing to attract gamers to the Wii U system and that Nintendo will take steps to ensure that the Wii U is successful in the market.”
Ubisoft released Assassin’s Creed III on Wii U at the consoles’ launch last year. The game went on to sell more than 12.5 million copies worldwide, all versions considered. This year, the publisher hopes to beat that record but are expecting modest numbers on the record.
“In our numbers we expect less than last year,” said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot in a recent earnings call.
“We are actually pushing to achieve more than last year because we think the pirate segment is a great segment that can generate a lot more on a worldwide basis than what was achieved last year. But we wanted to be prudent on our expectations so that it can probably be a bonus if it comes.”
The publisher raked in over AU$1.66 Billion in the last financial year.
