Hacked Pokemon will be banned from tournaments

Posted

Users of "illegal Pokémon" will be banned

"Considering how fun and addictive Pokémon battles with friends are, it's no surprise tournaments have cropped up all over the world for trainers to show off their 'mon's skills.

However, one blight that has been attached to the competitions is the use of modified Pokémon. Essentially, people can use smartphone applications to hack the DS game in question and then subsequently masquerade as its server. This allows it to distribute bulked up Pokémon in order to give the player the edge.

The Pokémon Company has recently issued a statement on the matter - helpfully translated onNeoGAF - deterring hackers by saying these illicit methods can harm the saved game on the cartridge and should anyone be found using what it calls an "illegal Pokémon" at a tournament they will automatically be disqualified and will not be able to compete in any future events.

What makes things even worse is that you could even corrupt the save file of the trainer you're playing against and Nintendo and the Pokémon Company have both said they cannot restore the file to normal.

Hacking into a game to modify Pokémon goes against what the series is all about, so hopefully people will stop trying to be dirty rotten cheaters and play the game properly. It's much more fun to level your 'mon up gradually anyway.

What are your thoughts on this? Have you ever come across these cheating scoundrels?

"what is RNG manipulation"

"what is RNG manipulation"

Basically a process in which you trick the game's Random Number Generator to get what you want in the game like Shinies and certain Pokemon IVs. Its technically not cheating since you're not using an external device to modify your game, but alot of people feel like it takes away the spirit of the game.

Seems like you aren't familiar with the usage of quotes as sardonic markers...I know what it is, my point is that not everything with super-duper-high IVs or whatever is by necessity "hacked". I've heard stories of people being barred from competing because of such RNG-manip'd Pokés despite the lack of actual AR or the like.

Nintendo doesn't realize that most people who go to tournaments cheat anyway but make legal hacked pokemon and there is no way to tell the difference if the person knows how to make them right.

And no, that bit about it corrupting the save of the other player's game is a total lie. Unless you have an Action Replay blatantly sticking out of your DS and your using codes that specifically warns you about it, it can never happen.

Well, I'm sorry for any misunderstanding on my part, but you probably could have made your point more clear. You could do without the condescendingly rude remarks as well. We're all friends here.

As that old ghetto adage goes "Don't hate the player, hate the game." All haterade aside, I think IVs themselves go against the core essence they try to embody, that every Pokemon is unique. There shouldn't be "Perfect" Pokemon. So, I don't think its fair when they blame the people who RNG abuse for perfect IVs, because that's what the current competitive metagame demands. They should find a way to make them more balanced or overhaul the system altogether.

At least with Pokemon X and Y there wont be anyway to cheat for a while...

THats only because the 3DS is still recent and no one's figure out how to hack it yet. Otherwise, we'd probably have 3DS Emulators.

The 3DS has recently been hacked actually.

Nintendo doesn't realize that most people who go to tournaments cheat anyway but make legal hacked pokemon and there is no way to tell the difference if the person knows how to make them right.

Second this. They've stated this lie since VGC started years ago. I find it funny they state this. 2 years ago someone used a hacked Hydriegon (legal stats, but it was literally from Ghetsis lmao), and I believe he didn't even get kicked out of the tournament. Although they probably didn't cared by the time he lost later on the rounds.

About le RNG, RNG manipulation is accepted by them. You can speak to VGC employees, one will at least know what you are talking about and will say it's fine. Heck you can ask Devin (Marriland), and he'll say it's perfectly fine. I should know, I've talked to him once or twice. I had one of my friends ask him about it out of curiosity, even when I told him RNG abuse is allowed. lol

Last but not least, like Oishii said, the 3DS is hacked. There's even about to be for the first time flashcarts for it. (Won't go any further, Google it.) Cheats are bound to happen, so... inb4hacked6thgen

And Nintendo has recently released and update that makes hacked 3DS cartridge worthless

How did you figure that this Hydriegon has the same stats as Ghetsis's

+

They NEED to state such thing even if it was a lie to ensure that they'll minimize the number of hackers in tournaments...sure there will be a hacker no matter how strict their rules are....but the lesser they are,the better it gets.

If you're in GameFreak's place....YOU NEED to say that you'te tracking hackers even if you're not....You don't wanna make the fans abandon the tournaments after all those years so you have to see you're trying to make the competition as fair as possible even if you can't track every single hacker in the tournaments

Because people talk to each other in tournaments. You'd be surprised how many people you meet and talk to.I still think a simple "No hacked Pokemon, PERIOD" should suffice. No need to exaggerate about messing up carts, or players would be scared not to go because they're risking the chance their carts go haywire. All players that I meet either are RNG abused or hacked with legal stats and moves. Most I meet don't care, as long as it's legal. Also the ones who made the fashcart already have an update for it. Come on, you think a silly update is going to stop them?

And Nintendo has recently released and update that makes hacked 3DS cartridge worthless

Nintendo's updates always do that but flashcards make patches to overcome each one and the good ones don't always need it.  And what I'm talking about hasn't been released so Nintendo can't attempt to block it yet.

Of course, I have no intention of getting flashcards to illegally download games if it can't overcome region block.

I know it's not gonna stop them

But it's gonna make the process much harder for them

But I don't think GameFreak would go nuts on hackers like what happened Geohot and Sony

Barley harder. I think they try to look for what flag check the latest update did, and find their way around it. Yeah Gamefreak doesn't go nuts. It surprised me when all we had to use were IR communications. (So hack checks were only by visuals lol)

About the 3DS being hacked... Its not needed... You can hack pokemon in other ways and it is 100% possible to do it on a 3DS without any need of an action replay or flash card. I don't know about the smartphone thing but I've used Pokegen in the past. You simply use a program to make all the details and parameters of the pokemon, you upload the file to a website and then it gives you an address code. Whenever you connect your DS/3DS online, it defaults this number to Nintendo's main address so online can work. All you have to do is replace the address with this new one and then enter the Global Trading Center. Instead of connecting to the GTS's trading server, it connects to the Pokegen website where it gives you your pokemon as though someone gave it to you for free. Yes, this does in fact work on a 3DS... I tried it out on Black 2 with my 3DS running on current updates.

You do realize it's running on DS mode, right? Not that it matters because it's using the game itself. Of course it will work because they made programs to act as artificial GTS. When XY are released, they're going to have to either update or make a new GTS program to trick XY's GTS system into thinking it's connecting to the Pokemon server(s), but really are connecting to the program.

This is assuming Pokegen/whatever is updated with XY, which could take longer because it's running on a 3DS instead of what the developers of Pokegen were used to with DS games. (BW 1/2 are DS games, so it didn't take long for them to update pokesav/make pokegen.)
