I find being called a 'guy' very un-elegant and insolting for me...

Posted

I know I hear 'you guys' is supposed to be an expression to mean people as a whole, heck, a FRIENDLY expression, at that, even affectionate, maybe, but, whenever someone says it twards a group with includence of me, I can't help but feel..........desgusted >_<;;; Really, really desguested. And, worse, I feel if i'm not called a 'lady' afterwards, by close by people or the computer, i'll start to LIKE VIOLENCE AGAINST MY OWN FREE WILL because it appers to be a part of the 'male' gender role......

I really shoulda posted this on a forum relating to autism...since it relates to my autism....but I use this forum so much more.....

(I may try to get back one of my WrongPlanet accounts sometime though to re-post this thread and seek their thoughts on the situation too, though. And talk about it with my consoler, oviously.....)

Of course I can tell you why people say it even when both genders are present. It is simply because it is a lot quicker to type guys and smoother when said than guys and gals/girls. Though that isn't the problem you are having, if I read your what you are saying properly, your problem is that your stereotype for males is violent. And if you feel like you have been called a male you now want to fit that role. But that is a bad stereotype. There are lots of males that aren't violent, and ones that are only violent when they have to be. So, my suggestion to you is try to improve your stereotype of guys.

I often say gals after I say guys when females are present.

Uh... if girls are present then "guys" is used as a gender-neutral term.  And I'd rather they just stick to that instead of feeling a need to single me and the other girls out solely because we have vaginas.
