Australian federal election, 2013

Recommended Posts

I always face palm about anything to do with politics, because i know that there is never going to be a system of government that will work due to the greed and corrupptibility of humans :/

May as well do what you can to make it as less painful as possible...

Mostly because of this guy:

Rundown for non-Aussies: that's Tony Abbott, the current opposition leader. Suffice to say he's like an Australian Bush, but worse. And unfortunately, because of the scandals current government has been going through (and the ridiculous amount of fearmongering the media has been putting out), he has a high chance of winning the election - a death warrant for us, since it'll send us into a Dubya-esque age. And I'm scared for it.

Him and his party are against same-sex marriage.

He and his party are also going to make it harder for poor people.

And their plan for the National Broadband Network is a firetrucking joke. 25 Mbps in 2019. :(

Best we can hope for is a hung parliament, honestly. By the time people realise how badly Abbott stuffs up everything, it'll be much too late to recover.

Did you hear his "does this man ever shut up?" comment in the debate? I'm not overly fond of Labor either, but that was just pathetic. How the hell are we supposed to be taken seriously on the world stage with a brain-dead moron like this guy at the helm? Pretty sure I'm going to lose my faith in the public this Saturday.

Good job Australia, you just turned yourselves into a laughingstock.

More interested in the Senate, now. If the more progressive parties manage to hold on to the balance of power, perhaps they'll be able to moderate and/or outright block some of the Maggot's (come on, you know it's a fitting nickname) more extreme policies. He's already implied he'll call for a double dissolution if he doesn't get his way regarding the carbon tax (which I honestly couldn't give a shit about); either way, it might just be the wake-up call the country needs to realise how much of a rotting scumbag he truly is.

http://www.thevine.com.au/life/news/why-an-abbott-election-victory-would-be-good-20130905-264996/ makes for some good reading too.
