I do not think that the following belongs in the X and Y thread. If it is thought that it belongs there, though, then I would like it to be moved there. I would also like this thread to be locked or deleted if a similar thread has already been made.

To the point; does anyone else think that X and Y could mark the end of the Pokémon gaming franchise? Regardless of the fact that it is extremely financially successful, here are the reasons for why I think that Pokémon X and Y could be the final generation of the Pokémon series:

1. The titles. All of the other Pokémon games have had names that were derived either from colours, elements or precious stones, but these names did not exactly have much of a meaning to them (except, perhaps, for naming the colours of the Pokémon that were depicted on the box art). In the case of the X and Y versions, though, the titles are derived from the last two letters of the English alphabet, and I am sure that a countless number of people have already assumed that Z version is what will be the next instalment of Generation VI; the title being derived from the last letter of the alphabet, which, to me, implies an ending of sorts. I am aware that the names of the main legendary Pokémon of both of the titles begin with X and Y, but I do not think that that has much to do with the point that I am trying to make.

2. Mega-Evolutions of the starters of the first generation. As all readers should know, the second evolutions to the starter Pokémon of the first generation have been given Mega-Evolutions, with one of the three being revealed as having two different Mega-Evolutions; implying that the other two will receive another Mega-Evolution as well. I think of this as being something of a tribute to these Pokémon; the Pokémon that started what has become an extremely popular franchise, and I believe this to be a reminder to any players to never forget the trio who started the franchise that will soon come to a close.

3. The number of Pokémon. This may be a flawed point, but going by what we have been shown in the "leaks" so far, there is going to be a very large number of Pokémon, new and old, available for the taking in the pre-Elite Four part of the game. It has been shown that one starter from the first generation will be available for the taking at some point in X and Y, as well as a Torchic (though I cannot remember whether or not it is gained via an event). I think of this level of inclusion as being something of a homage to many existing Pokémon, and it gives the players a better opportunity to play the final entries in the series in whatever way they want.

4. Designs. I am not going to be too critical, but when it comes to creativity in the series, I believe that the Pokémon that have been revealed show something of a lack of ideas. I do not have a problem with the fact that some Pokémon are based on the same animal, but that does not mean that the reused design should not be well-made. Gogoat is a Pokémon that is blatantly quite similar to Sawsbuck, a Pokémon that was created only in the previous generation, which is not a good sign to me, and Pokémon such as Spewpa and Spritzee are not very well-designed at all. This point is purely based on my opinion, but I am sure that some people can relate to it.

Comments would be appreciated.

No way. I foresee Pokémon lasting a really long time.

Dude at this point Pokemon is selling even more than some Mario games

This isn't the end of the series,in fact I won't be surprised if Pokemon lasted for even another 20 years from now

What really annoys me is when people say that they are ruing out of ideas for pokemon.  I think some of the new ones are pretty cool looking.

X and Y, most likely the X and Y axis of 3D.

What really annoys me is when people say that they are ruing out of ideas for pokemon.  I think some of the new ones are pretty cool looking.

That's what people said about Gen 5 just based on the Garbodor and Vanilish famliy....totally ignoring the new mechanics and improvement added in Gen 5

Pokemon's most successful Gaming series ending just like that!? HA you must be high. Pokemon will never die... (It's sad...)

I think they are running out of ideas while having good ones along side it. ie: mixing good and bad/lazy designs.

I found the article that confirms why Masuda chose the names X and Y: http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2013/09/interview_junichi_masuda_and_hironobu_yoshida_discuss_pokemon_x_and_y_mega_evolutions_and_the_2ds

Hope that clears the name's up. Gotta love the memes that came up on FB when the names were first announced. *Cough*googlepokemonxvideos*cough* lol

Most of the memes I saw was Megaman X memes for some reason

Here is a few things to say about the future of pokemon series

1. We haven't gotten all of the EEVEE types yet and I think it would hurt the fans if they just stopped here with Pokemon X and Y.

2. Sure the lack of pokemon in this new gen is disappointing

69

currently known, but you have to understand that this is a even gen number and all the even gen pokemon games had less pokemon  in it.

3. Me thinks that they had a time limit that they could work on the game from Nintendo, and had to rush alot of things to get the game out. Remember in January when they first showed off the game, it looked like the game was still in beta process at that point, and alot of things went wrong during the trailer.

So don't get down, I'm sure in the game they will explain why they called it Pokemon X and Y since we don't know what the story is like.

As long as 1 cow lives, there will always be milk.

What end????

Do you really think X & Y will be the last game in the series???

Then why did they made the Pokemon Bank service to last for more than one Generation of Pokemon???

Pokemon is like Mario,if Mario stopped it'll be a disaster not only for Nintendo but for gaming in general

Pokemon won't stop as long as it has the passionate huge fanbase that kept it alive for almost 2 decades

Besides, every main Pokemon game sold over 10 million copies, that's not counting the spin-off games that sold like crazy.....Dude the sales of Gen 5 games rivals that of Call of duty

The Pokemon franchise is the second best selling video game series of all time right after Mario.....do you really think that Nintendo will shut down the Pokemon Company, yes Pokemon is so big it needed it's own seperate company, that makes billions of money with each game??

Not to mention there is the anime, the merchandise and the manga, have you forgot about that??

Also, the letters X & Y doesn't refer to the alphabet, but to something about DNA and genetic changes

They can pick up a different theme and a different name in the next generation of Pokemon, not to mention the possibly inevitable remakes of Ruby and Saphire

You do not need to patronise me.

 HA you must be high.

Someone wants to be reported.

You do not need to patronise me.

In what way did I patronized you??

I just said my opinion on how it won't end with X & Y

I don't have to agree with everything I see

Okay I really doubt it to be the end of Pokémon. In the game, it (spoiler alert) has many secret hints pointing to a remake of Pokémon R/S/E and the same thing happened with the Sinnoh series.

Remakes do not count as another generation.

In what way did I patronized you??

You do not have to patronise me, either.

Again, how did I patronized you?? Tell me?

How did any of those question are patronizing

Ok maybe the first one but the rest are just normal and and they aren't aimed at you as much it's pretty much questions flowing in my head when I was reading

I'm not trying to be a Hitler here so take it easy

Calm down guys come on and just enjoy the game when it comes out :) I don't see why people are getting out of control, just be happy Nintendo is giving the first 3D pokemon game.

I didn't mean that it is a next gen, I just mean it to be a next game which will later lead into another game then a another remake or game then a remake then a game, it is the circle of Pokemon life.
