Shinedown: Her Name Is Alice

CHAPTER 1

She sat by her older sister on the subway, gazing out the window at the dark tunnels rushing by, a cherry red ipod's headphones plugged into her ear, her expression thoughtful, distant.

The lights flickered, but she ignored it, glancing into the old book her sister was paging through: she snorted laughter, as she realized it was Alice In Wonderland.

Really? Just, really?

Her sister could be so....

Her thought's were interrupted by the rabbit: white, its fur tangeled and greasy, its eye's bloodshot, it sneered at her, then hurried on.

Much like Alice in the novel, curiosity overcame her, and she took off after it, running through disgrunteled passengers that clogged the cars to the very last part of the train, were she cornered it at last.

She gazed at it in awe: who let a rabbit loose on a sub...

" Welcome to Wonderland, Alice.'

She started, as the rabbit spoke to her, certainly not an every-day occurrence.

" That's not my..."

" It is now, my dear. Come; if your late, it's off with all our heads."

Whatever happened next was unknown to her, as the car swam around her, and everything dissolved to blackness.

Your every move, their watching you, and there is nothing you can do.

David Band: The Truth

CHAPTER 2

Glistening bodies, sweaty skin, the clang of the basketball rim.

He mentally chided himself: remember what Dr. Burton said.

The game was winding down, the sweaty teen guys leaving one by one, headed to homework, girlfriends, or who knew what, intil only he was left, sitting in the corner of the court, staring blankly at his shoes: none of his buddies knew he had no home to go to, or that he'd slept in the court the past few nights.

to unwind, he pulled out the book, it's cover faded, but legible: KINGDOM.

The manga was all about a brave squire chosen to be a knight, and he loved it so, reading it over and over to pass the lonely hours.

Ever since his dad had gotten out of jail, he'd yelled and screamed.

The day of his 18th birthday found him on the street outside, a small suitcase on the ground besides him like a beloved dog that had gone to sleep for the moment, watching his dad slam the door.

A sudden movement at the edge of the court made him look up: a... a RABBIT?

Suddenly burning with curiosity, he grabbed his back, carefully tucked KINGDOM away, and took off after the creature, which zig zagged wildly through the deserted playground of the elementary school next to the basketball courts.

Finally cornering it, he was shocked when it spoke;

" Second to the right, and straight on 'till morning, eh, Peter?"

" My name's not.."

" Oh, but it is now: you and Alice and the others should be arriving there soon. Goodbye."

The world swam, and he passed out.

Poor Unfortunate Souls

CHAPTER 3

She dove, free falling with an almost eerie precision, her more than normal eye sight spotting the Wakening Portal deposite the Alice and the Peter, just as the plan called for, the other two being called at that second.

"Poor dears... so young... so innocent... how sweet. " She grinned: it was a frightening sight.

CHAPTER 4

He walked into the room, graceful in his movements, 5 o'clock shadow darkening his light skin on the jawline, his cheeks high, his eyes as pale as the sky on a cloudy morning.

accepting his work from the teacher, he strode to the very back of the room, the silver chain around his neck glinting in the light of the fluorescent bulbs above.

He began his work, his midnight dark hair falling into his eyes.

The work wasn't what bothered him: fractions weren't all that complicated.

It was the looks: peeps from the corner of over curiouse eyes, pretend yawns to glance at him over the tops of hands, stretches and head turns...

anything to get a glimpse of him, the dark wonderkund in the background.

He should be used to it after two hundred years: being The Cinderling was never going to get easier.

He mulled over Rabbit's plan in his mind: They had the Alice and the Peter, and would soon have the Aurora.

He was next, and he'd be damned to Hell before stepping foot in the F.L again.

CHAPTER 5

".. let me do anything! Never! GOD!!"

She slammed the door to her bedroom, causing a small framed picture to smash into glassy shards on the floor.

sobbing, she ran to the bed, flopping down on it in the usual teenage angst: she was 18, PLEANTY old enough to streak her damn hair if she wanted, wether her parents liked it or not.

She sat up, breathe hitching: she wished, o she wished....

" I wish I wasn't here anymore."

There was a bang, a strange smell, pleanty of stupid purple smoke, and suddenly she wasn't in her room anymore.

*Clap* Wow! Thats good work! :) It actually sounds intresting! And its actually awesome that the chapters are so short xD

CHAPTER 6

".... little by little I feel a bit better.."

She sang off-key, but the woods didn't know the difference: unlike the sniveling bitches at the school... but she was NOT going to think of them.

Birds tweeted, sunlight shifted, and her red shirt seemed to almost glow in the shaft's of light craftily sneaking through the over hanging branches to penetrate the cool forest floor below,

creating alternating pools of coolness and heat.

" LET me go GRAVITY what's on MY SHOULDERRRR!!!"

She laughed, the music blaring into her mind through her death black headphones, as a few small birds took frightened flight at the sound of her caterwailing, the sound echoing in the woods like a shout from another country... or another world.

" ... Time for us to realizzzeee!!!" she belted out, doing a slight twirl,

her cornet gold hair shimmering like a fairy-tale princesses' in a shaft of bronze sunlight.

As she walked, her red shirt a becon in the dark woods....

The Red Riding Hood had no way of knowing the wolf was watching her.

CHAPTER 7

He stood, absently scratching his cheek, striding out of the classroom briskly, work over and done.

The Cinderling... he needed to remember that: he was The CINDERLING, not Edward Collinswood, but THE CINDERLING.

All humanity had been stripped of him years ago: being told at 18 that your life was over because an ancient prophecy had chosen you as a "Cinderling" in a team that consisted of the

"Peter", a boy of great cunning and craftiness, the " Alice", a girl who's curiosity bellied a desire to conqer, the " Aurora", one who's beauty was outshone by only her wits, the " Red Riding Hood", a huntress of awesome strength, and yourself, now " The Cinderling", the immortal one, born of ashes and flame, could really screw you up overtime.

He walked down the hall, lost in his own darkened thoughts, ignoring a trio of girls, 17 and 18 by the looks of them, who giggeled and whispered ,"He's so HOT!!!" , to one another childishly.

Hot? He could SHOW them "Hot": was watching the world you knew burn away, only to have it reborn from ashes a century later " hot" enough for them?

Smirking, he walked on into the night, seeming to vanish into the light fog that swirled around the campus of HT College: he liked the darkness very much.

It hid the tears slipping slowly down his cheeks to splash on the pavement.

CHAPTER 8

She walked, beauty in a dark world, a candle fire in a dark night, blissfully unaware of the danger lurking close by: The Wolf.

The Wolf was cunning: she NEVER missed her prey.

The Red Riding Hood would never know what hit her, intill she was in the F.L with the others.

Was she dreaming? The last thing she remembered was.... parents... yelling... hair streaks...

wait: WHAT? Her, the Princess Aurora, streak her hair? Couldn't be...

What the? PRINCESS???

She stood, trying to clear her head: what was wrong with her?

She stumbeled to her feet, looking around: it came back to her, all in a rush, like a dam breaking free of it's boundries; her name was Elizabeth, she was 18, lost in a strange wood, and a very handsome boy was looking at her with love.

For the dead travel fast

Bram Stoker, Dracula

CHAPTER 10

He walked aimlessly through the shadows of the night, ending up wherever his feet led him, lost amid chaotic and dark memories.

As he walked, he got the distinct feeling he was being... followed.

He whirled around, scattering dead leaves across the pavement, scanning the fog behind him warriely: nothing.

A hand tapped his shoulder: instinct took over his body, as he slammed the person to the ground, wrenched his arm behind his back, and was preciding to twist, when an almost musical voice called out.

" Hey.. Uncle.. uncle... yow! "

He let the bare chested boy beneath him go, the boys light jacket lost in the scuffle.

" DAMN YOU, Jack! You gave me a damn coronary! "

The boy smirked, putting his jacket back on; the flesh of his thin chest was almost white, pale and as perfect as ice...

as cold to.

The boy ran a hand through his jet black hair, and rolled his tawny yellow eyes.

" well, " said Jack Frost, " how's life treated ya, Cinder?"

CHAPTER 11

" You... you... "

Jack laughed, absently scratching his pale belly, his laugh deep, yet as light as new fallen snow.

" touchy, are we there, Cinder?"

He launched at Jack, fist raised, and fell to the grass as he burst into a curtain of black snow particles.

Reforming, Jack laughed, his eyes flashing green, since they changed colour according to his mood,

" Temper, temper..."
