The Unreleased Harry Potter Deleted Scenes

Posted

The Harry Potter series has proven to be very successful both financially and critically. Unlike most book adaptation series, many fans have been content with how the films have been done, and their loyalness to the books. The deleted scenes for the films have expanded upon the film, adding in more book moments.

However, there are some deleted scenes known to have been filmed that have not been released. A lot of them are REALLY good and interesting looking scenes that would be worthwhile to rebuy the movies just to see them. A list of known deleted scenes is as follows:

Philosopher’s/Sorcerer’s Stone

- Dumbledore dialogue: “And most importantly of all” during the opening feast (featured in a TV spot

at 0:14 ) (as well some possible cut sound effects heard at the end of the trailer). It could also possibly be him saying “no magic” here at 1:17 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OniAlOrLxyE

- - The famous Peeves scene. Was cut due to Chris Columbus not being satisfied with the final look. Some concept art was released in the Harry Potter Limited Edition book. Rik Mayall was casted as Peeves and would’ve shouted his lines off camera.  http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/File:Peeves_Film_Concept.jpg and

Percy leading the First years down a corridor featured in Chamber of Secrets (shown in a trailer at 1:24 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OniAlOrLxyE

- - Hermione line: “He’s rather disagreeable, isn’t he” (TV spot at 0:23 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbiO6gVSydY) (Part of the Peeves scene?)  (or Perhaps the scene where Harry meets Malfoy)

- - Ron complaining about the Troll smell to Fred’s socks right before they follow the Troll into the girl’s bathroom (a behind the scenes video at: )

- - Dumbledore and Harry extended talk at the Mirror or Erised where Dumbledore mentions the woolen socks from the book (behind the scenes video at

- - Harry and Ron looking at the Great Hall hour glass in between the scene of them being caught by McGonagall and going out with Filch for detention (a picture shot of this was shown in a magazine advertising the DVD release)

- - (Possibly) Snape’s potions challenge due to it being mentioned in the movie “Snape is one of the teachers protecting the stone” (a bit of a Plot Hole in the film, though arguably Snape could’ve been acting as a security investigator/guard) and the Potions challenge being build/featured on the DVD special features.

- - Harry and a Gringotts Guard goblin (promotional photo)

- Dumbledore voice over of Hogwarts Letter to Harry (0:06 here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbiO6gVSydY ) 0:24 here: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0l69GtEaa0 ) < At 0:10 you can also see a slightly different take of Harry leaning up to Uncle Vernon saying “There’s no such thing as magic”

- At 5:18 here, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uINrrMOvNUA extended Flamel Discussion. At 5:26, new Mcgonagal dialogue

Chamber of Secrets:

- A shot of Ginny looking down on the trio in the Gryffindor Common room after they get back from the dueling club (released online)

- - Alternate scene of Trio discussing the Poly Juice potion in the Gryffindor Common room (uses the EXACT SAME dialogue as in film in scene where they are walking in the corridor after McGonagal tells them of the Chamber of Secrets) (confirmed through Behind the scenes videos and some promotional pictures, including a shot of Hermione writing in the common room inside the DVD, and featured in the Colin’s Dark Room game on the DVD.

- - A Shot of Harry and Ron falling down the Chamber slide (used in a TV spot)

Prisoner of Azkaban

- Boggart Dracula Bikini scene (confirmed by Jamie Waylett in an interview, it was in the script; Seamus Finnegan’s Boggart is a vampire that he makes it wear a bikini and it shimmies and shakes like Carmen Miranda

- - The Trio arguing down the slope on the way to meeting Hagrid down at the lake. This was used as a “scene card” for merchandise. Also confirmed through a set photo.

- - The Sirius Black Attack Scene. As the aftermath was strangely included as a deleted scene on the DVD, why would they bother filming the aftermath if not the attack? It’s in the script, and I think it was mentioned by someone in an interview that it was filmed.

Goblet of Fire

- Extended bit of Frank Bryce walking around the Riddle House’s hedge (shown in a photo)

- - More Shots of the Quidditch World Cup attack (photos and in some trailers and behind the scenes photos)

- - Close up shot of Draco with Krum in the Great Hall. A magazine and photos released.

- - The Weighing of the Wands scene. It was reported that John Hurt was confirmed to return as Ollivander, and a set report by a fan indicated that they had seen him at Leavesden (the filming studio) when Goblet of Fire was being filmed.

- - Cedric and Cho walking around in the Courtyard during the Yule Ball Ask montage (a photo released)

- - Viktor Krum’s dive (a featurette on the DVD)

- - Harry looking at the Golden Egg in his room. Shown in a promotional photo

- - (Possibly) Mcgonagall throwing her panties up on stage at Yule Ball (test screening)

- - Harry entering the Prefect’s bathroom with the lights on, carrying the Marauder’s Map (shown in a photo)

- - Moody and Rita Skeeter at the Second Task. Shown in a behind the scenes photo in the Harry Potter: The Complete Film Making Journey Book

- - Avery the Death Eater getting tortured during Graveyard scene (the casting of Richard Rossen, a report)

- - Priori Incantatem explanation scene between Dumbledore and Harry on the Hogwarts battlements. A photo.

- - Harry comforting Hermione during Cedric’s Funeral

- - The famous Waterfall scene, used as a possible alternate ending, shown through calendar and other photos, and at 3:10 here

It was also used in the video game. Apparently cut to use the final cut ending in order to make it more loyal to the book due to negative test screening, as per an interview with David Heyman.

- - Possibly scenes with Emma Thompson as professor Trelawney (reports, rumors)

- - Harry line: “Is it Voldemort?” (Used in trailer)

Order of the Phoenix

- Alternate Snowy opening. (Reported at the beginning of production and through test screenings)

- - A scene with Peeves (test screening)

- - Extended bit of Dudley puking after Dementor attack (a photo)

- - The subplot of Ron and Hermione being prefects. (According to a fan whose grandfather had connections on the film, a scene inbetween the trial scene and the King’s Cross scene depicted Ron and Hermione receiving their badges at dinner and Harry would’ve been upset. Later, after the Voldemort King’s Cross nightmare scene, Ginny was supposed to come in and tell Ron and Hermione to go sit with the other prefects)

- - A scene of Umbridge favoring Slytherins over Gryffindor’s (according to Jamie Waylett in an interview, though that may just be the scene of Umbridge embroidering the Inquisitorial Squad)

- - The DA defeated in the Gryffindor Common room after getting busted by Umbridge (here at 1:13  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDir4QFhjpI )

- - Young Ginny in Snape’s Worst Memory (a photo released, the casting of Susie Shiner early on in production)

- - (Possibly) The astronomy exam (a report, the scene mentioned above)

- - The DA in the Ministry Atrium (a photo)

- - Shot of Harry in department of mysterious (a photo)

- - The Brains scene in the Ministry (Matthew Lewis interview, a photo of a prop being released)

- - Dumbledore line during final battle: “Don’t fight him Harry, you can’t win on his terms” (a TV spot, test screenings)

- - Harry skipping stones across the lake at the end ( 3:50 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDir4QFhjpI )

- - McGonagall recovering in a wheelchair at the end (Set and officially released photos)

- - Draco, Crabbe Goyle, sulking around at the end that their fathers are in Azkaban (here at 1:44 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDir4QFhjpI )

- - Nearly Headless Nick at the end (John Cleese was reported in the same report that confirmed the Patil Twins returning as returning, same through other resources)

- - There is supposedly about 45 min total of deleted footage (some of it was included as deleted scenes on the DVD, but the majority lost) according to David Yates.

- - Ron supporting Harry during DA meeting (a trailer)

I for one would personally LOVE to see ALL of these deleted scenes. Warner could make soooo much more money if they released them. We get to see more Potter, and if one considers it, then they can be like an extended movie experience, making the movies even better and having the “complete book”. Oddly, a lot of Warner’s other movies such as Gremlins 2 have over 40 minutes of deleted scenes, whereas most of the Hps (especially Order of the Phoenix) have barely 10 minutes of pointless deleted scenes, when there are tons of other scenes that have not been released that we KNOW they filmed and that have even been advertised.

Please sign and share this so that way they possibly are released! http://www.change.org/en-CA/petitions/warner-bros-release-the-unreleased-harry-potter-deleted-scenes
