Why do Neoshadows give out several green hearts when they die in KHFM?

Posted

In KHFM, in the 'Linked Worlds' room before Final Rest (the one with the glowing green floor) when you kill a Neoshadow, it gives three green hearts (possibly more, it's hard to tell) that descend into the floor. But why? They're Pureblood Heartless, and I don't think the Emblems do the same thing in that room. They shouldn't be leaving hearts at all when they die.

This is also in obvious contrast with the Neoshadows in KHII which die like normal Purebloods.

Was just wondering if this had ever been brought up before or if it actually has an explanation. I'm assuming they made it that way because it looked cool but then changed it in later games, but I dunno. The wiki isn't helpful, either.

Those are not hearts. When a Neoshadow dies in KH1, it fully restores all other Neoshadows in the room.

Oh, duh. Why didn't I think of that? I guess I was just confused since that doesn't appear to be the case in 2. Oh well. Thank you for the explanation, that was really bugging me.

Yeah, it's basically their "essence", seeping into the floor to await the final surviving Neoshadow to bring them all back. In a way, you're defeating them, but not entirely, you have to get EVERY LAST ONE...But after that, they were scaled down in Re:CoM, II, and onward. Instead of multiplying, they just came in groups, became more agile, and had less diverse yet annoying sinking into the ground moves. Instead of those moves, they got more aerial attacks, and they couldn't summon more of each other, so that's why their essence doesn't seep into the ground anymore. It's never really explained because it serves more as a game mechanic than a story mechanic.
