What to do at an anime convention?

Posted

So far, I have only been to an anime convention once. And.. it didn't go so well since I didn't know what to do. I wasn't cosplaying, I didn't go with any friends (because they're not really interested in anime), I didn't bring a camera, and I don't know how to go up and talk to a cosplayer >.< I'm sort of a shy person and it's hard for me to break the ice. Do you guys have any advice on how to make friends at an anime con and what to do there?? I'm going to Naka-Kon next year and I don't want it to end up like my last one.

Well I've been to 2 conventions this year (in one of them, I made a cosplay xD), and this is what I know so far:

- Bring money for merchandise, and food. You'll need to eat (we only had ramen here, I'm not complaining ^^), and if still have some money use some of it on what you'd like.

- Some merchandise (especially cosplay merchandise) is cheaper on cosplay stores. I saw an Akatsuki cloak on both events by 60€, and it was at 30€ on the local store.

Bring a camera. You will want to relive those moments. Take pictures, record the event, it's worth it. And about asking cosplayers for a picture, don't worry :) If a cosplayer is asked for a photo, it's because that cosplay is good. They even welcome that xD

- Everyone knows about anime there, so try to make friends. It's your world, so take advantage of it and make friends :)

- If you'd like, and if you have the money for it, you can do a cosplay. I did a Doctor Who cosplay this year, and lots of people asked for pictures xD

I want go to a convention someday. I did mention in one of my statuses my mom said that she would take me one day. I was so happy that day she said it. But who would i go as? A Kingdom Hearts, Hetalia, or Vocaloid character? Decisions, decisions... *paces back and forth*

There's usually plenty to do. Check out the schedule if one is being handed out. Usually the play movies, shows, or have special anime-themed events. Sometimes they may even have a room for video games!

Some tips though, is to bring money and buy some goodies. It's really fun to browse the dealer's room, and buy a Death Note or even an Axel action figure. Don't worry though about talking to cosplayers! I have some pretty bad anxiety, but plenty of people will be more than happy to stop and let you take a picture!

Dress up as godzilla and destroy everything

I'd love to give advice, but seriously I ask the same question...

They have game rooms (arcade, video, card, board), panels, cosplay meet ups if you want to take pictures and dances.  I would love to go to raves, but I have no one to go with.  When all else fails, head to the dealers room and go shopping!

As for breaking the ice, you can start by telling people that you like their costume.  People love getting complements.  But most of the talking I did with people I didn't know was when I was waiting in line, and boy did they have some interesting stories.  I heard one involving a bowl of puke, a woman who was 8 months pregnant, and you probably don't want to know the rest.

I'll tell you what to do. You find the hottest, coolest chick there and you.............. I mean....*sip* you know just have some fun and stuff
