So after collecting all the Ansem's Reports, it became obvious that, while 2-11 were written by Xehanort, 12 and 13 could not have been, since he had already given up his body. So, which of the two resulting beings wrote them?

I think that Xemnas wrote 12 because it seemed more impersonal, saying things like  "Yet this one has not taken on the form of a Heartless" rather than "I have not taken on the form of a Heartless"For the same reason I think that Ansem SoD wrote 13, because his knowledge of the Nobodies was merely theoretical.

However, there are some points against this, for example, how could Xehanort's Heartless write anything without a body and Xemnas had Report 13, not 12. In addition, it was in 13 that the Nobodies were given their name but Secret Ansem's report 7 said it was the Nobodies themselves who came up wit it. But, if that were true, why was it written as a theory?

What does everybody else think?

It makes sense to me that Xemnas came up with the name. After all, in Secret Ansem Report 7:

"This new threat...they have given themselves a fitting name, I suppose. These non-beings: Nobodies."

In Kh1- the first report was written by Ansem the Wise and then the rest by Xehanort (who stole his identity)  .( depending on what version you use ) The confusion   here prolly lies in mistranslation since the original extra reports were only in japanese.. I have read the reports you are pointing out in the first person where he does say "I " .Same with in the 13th- I have seen the translation as both 'the nobodies" and the "non-existent ones' so that might explain the contradiction in that too..but if Ansem SoD/ Xehanort truly said the 'non existent ones in KH1 report 13 it would make KH2's report 7 make sense then so that works itself out ..If it was Xehanort ,he could've been there when they named themselves also though if he stabbed himself last and observed first. So lets look at the possibilities : There are two different versions out bc of mistranslations. But up until the 1.5 came out with official english translations the other  translated reports were all we knew as canon . - so if its the mistranslated version and it's Ansem SoD who was thought to have wrote it lets look at this

I have transcended to an existence of only the heart. I should have come back as a Heartless, but there is no sign of such a transformation. My body has surely perished. However, I am different from the other Heartless, keeping the memories of before, and I have not taken on the form of a Heartless. I

If this was true then it would've been Ansem SoD .... Butttttt ,this is what i think is the mistranslation .Why?

If you take the other version in 1.5 which shows the first  official original english version of the extra reports it could be Xehanort who wrote them all except the very first report ( who did have hands) talking about witnessing what happened to the apprentices before he stabbed himself.. Which would answer this question about how he wrote it since DDD shows him stabbing them first . Soooo,  since the latest games are current canon ..

Corrected myself. Got thrown off because Ansem the wise called the first report "number Zero"

And I see what you mean, he did just say "The Body is gone" not "My body is gone" so he could have very well written all 12 before giving up his heart except for the fact that he still spoke of the lack of transformation, which only occurred with his own Heartless.

Ansem's Report 12

The body is gone; the heart should have returned to the Heartless. And yet, nothing.

This one is unlike any other. Its memories remain, and it has yet to take the form of a Heartless.

A close eye must be kept on the situation. Much is still unknown.

To get the the realm of Darkness, one must go through the doors of Kingdom Hearts, the place where the world's hearts connect.

Beyond this world is a place in which Darkness reigns. (Details shall be archived in a seperate report)

There are many worlds in existence, some of which we know nothing about.

The world in which we live. The realm of Darkness. The realm of Light.

And the world in between.

Wherein lies true nirvana?

I've thought of that too. I'm thinking it could actually maybe be Ansem the wise . He later was said to be observing the situation  after he returned from the RoD. He could've written both 12 and 13 actually if you think about it . He did come back and did write all the reports in Kh2 so it would make sense .. Up until the now it was thought bc of the original mistranslated material it was Ansem SoD bc of shit like the quote I posted above .That's just my theory - it would make sense . xD What do you think ? There just seems to be inconsistentcies so i think you have a valid question . It's a toss up considering bc what if Ansem SoD writes in the third person for research sake? What if it is Ansem SoD and his original form before taking over Riku had enough form to at least write even if he wasn't fully human looking to the extent he was when he had Riku's body ?? He had kept his state of mind and memories and was sentient ... Really this needs an official Nomura explanation .

I hadn't even considered Ansem the wise having written it bc he said he only wrote the first one. But, Report 12 does say that he would detail the RoD in another report, and the Secret Ansem's Repport does go into slightly more detail regarding that.

Yeah so it does kinda make sense xD I kind of think of this as all of the possible choices have something that makes it questionable so that's why it would be nice to have an official explanation .

Do note that Japanese omits pronouns when the subject of the sentence/text/whatever can be reasonably inferred from the context (original JP report for 12 here). Most likely the author for 12 is indeed Ansem SoD (talking about his unique status as a Heartless) and the original script writers just didn't feel the need to constantly shove it in your face. The translators for 1.5 seem to have taken the "no pronoun" thing a bit too literally, hence why it seems impersonal in the localisation.

Yeah I agree it's got something to do with translations for sure . But the question of how Ansem SoD can write if he had no body is still an inconsistancy unless he had enough of a form to at least be able to write like I pointed out earlier. I do believe this is the most likely answer
