Long before the 100 Year War, before the Fire Nation was even beginning to industrialize, a meeting was held in Ba Sing Se. Avatar Po had since passed, and a newborn Kyoshi was yet to realize her potential. In effort to inspire the strength and spirit of the Earth Kingdom, the city of Omashu invited benders from all over the world to participate in a tournament in honor of the deceased Avatar. But not all is calm, and with the world's peacekeeper a mere infant, a certain Earth Kingdom noble intends to take hold of the continent. It may very well be up to this collection of cultures, to maintain peace for Kyoshi to grow into the great Avatar she is destined to be.

This is Omashu's tournament: The Tournament of Greatness, sponsored by King Ei Oran, a young man who has spent little time on the throne, and therefore listens often to the words of his advisor, Xiao Lee. But none of this is of your concern. For now. Let the tournament commence!

The first battle: Ferro Heldening versus Tsubaki Saito

The two combatants currently stand in a circular arena, one kilometer in diameter, on a line one third inward. Leaving one third of a kilometer between the two of you. The arena is made of hard stone, with puddles and wells scattered throughout the battlefield.

The other six competitors stand in a gallery of sorts to converse amongst themselves as the matches take part, or view them for themselves.

Ferro and Tsubaki are battle ready. King Oran stands present in his balcony, holding a sphere of marble in the air. With a clenched the fist, the sphere shattered, signaling the two to begin their duel.

Natron, Kumori, go at it. Everyone else may converse amongst themselves, and comment to each other about the match, but Ferro and Tsubaki are center stage for now.

Ferro assumed his stance. He had been surprised when he was let in to the tournament, wanted criminal as he was. But they had let him in. His staff was resting with his other things in the viewing gallery. No weapons was the rule. Ferro remained light on his feet, waiting for his opponent to make the first move.

Tsubaki readied himself. He was surprised at how large the arena was, puddles, wells, water for waterbenders he thought. Now he looks at his opponent, a small hooded figure away. His opponent wasn't making a move, so he took his chance, he sprints three steps, vaults himself using fire up into the air and with a horizontal kick angled downwards, he sends a wave of hot blue fire at his opponent.

Ferro saw his opponent move, and executed a spinning motion as his opponent leaped. The motion built up speed, and Ferro unleashed a powerful air blade, slicing straight through the flames and parting them to either side. He quickly dropped down and made another spinning move, sending a low air slash to try and catch Tsubaki as he landed.

My flames suddenly became two in front of Tsubaki's eyes, he flipped backwards avoiding the slash, losing sight of his opponent for a brief moment. Tsubaki lands only to be hit by a gust of wind, but he withstands the blow. *tch out of all the my opponents I could get matched up, I get an airbender* He throws two punches sending out two flames. He then kicks low to send a slash of fire, then starts to run towards his opponent behind his fire hoping his opponent won't see

As the flames approached, Ferro made a parting motion with his hands, and the flames were blown to the side. He saw the firebender was trying to close with him. "You firebenders just have to get up in everyone's grill, don'cha." Ferro pushed forward with his hands, creating a large gust of wind. He let the force of the blast propel him backward, and after several meters he started bending into a backwards flip. He curled up, letting himself spin in the air for a second, then slashed with his hands as he unfurled and landed, launching a vertical sheet of compressed air toward Tsubaki.

Seeing Ferro zoom away *crap, I need to trap him* Tsubaki spreads his arms creating a wall of flame encircling him and ferro in a smaller circle. He punches twice - spins and sidekicks, rolls forwards, grounds his forward stance and punches straight launching three fireballs and a stream of fire in succession

Ferro stopped his backward motion as the flames closed in. "Trapping an airbender is said to be a difficult task." Ferro commented as he sent a downward gust of air to propel himself up and out of harm's way. "I don't know if that's true or not. Maybe you could tell me." Before he had a chance to fall, he whirled his arms in a circle, forming a sphere of air, which he hurled down toward Tsubaki. This provided a slight upward momentum, which Ferro used to regain his balance and start hovering in the air. He moved the air in two upward circular currents to keep himself aloft, which also served to build up air speed for a future attack.

*He's got a better vantage point, well not for long* Tsubaki back flips to separate puddles of water, at the same time avoiding Ferro's attack, and using his flames, evaporates the puddles to form a thick layer of steam to hide his location.

((our fellow competitors are so shocked at how awesome we are that they can't seem to say anything at all right?))

(Heh, it seems so. The spectators are in awe.)

Ferro let out a snort as Tsubaki created his steam-screen. Didn't he know airborne visual inhibitors are easily bypassed by a little wind? Ferro dropped to the ground, keeping his built-up air with him. He expended a small portion of it in a wide breeze that swept the fog away. There you are. Then he unleashed a long sweeping air slash. He quickly followed it by forming another explosive air sphere, launching it after the wave.

There you are, on the ground right where I want you Tsunami thought. Tsubaki sneakily tightened the space confined by the wall of fire as Ferro preoccupied himself with finding me, and shot a blast of lightning towards Ferro.

The lightning hit the oncoming wave of air and the air sphere, destroying both, but slowing down the lightning just enough for Ferro's extreme reflexes to kick in. He shot up into the air again as the lightning passed below, then landed to one side outside of the circle of flames. As he fell, he started spinning, and by the time he hit the ground, he had built up air to send out another wide wave. The wave slammed through the circle of flames, putting it out.

King Oran smirked. "This is certainly interesting." He commented.

"It's almost as if the air bender is a fire bender himself."

Tch his movements are annoying. Tsubaki looks to the king *he's smirking* looks to Ferro *he's got movements, but no real attacks* Tsubaki takes in a deep breath and the remaining fires die out *no need to expend useless energy...I'm starting to see his air, very direct much like a firebenders hmmm* Tsubaki takes of in a dash directly towards Ferro

((Sorry guys for the late response, I had tests and papers taking up my time))

"Indeed...." Morgan murmured after the King's comment, surprised that the use of lightning wasn't prohibited. It stood to reason that metalbending would be allowed, while energybending is left unknown as of now. Bloodbending, however, was directly forbidden, as Morgan herself needed to watch for such. She gazed upon the fighters upon a balcony high-up, but below the King.

From the other side of the arena, Celsus oversaw the match with content observations. Quite interesting to see the easygoing Air Nomad against such an intense firebender. Even more so the gas of fire in collision with air, the fight was chaotic. He glanced to the King as well, then back to the fight, curious as to who would win.

Sighing, Joshua sat against the wall of the gallery, not really paying much attention to the fight— nor to anything, really. Boringly, he continued playing with a small bit of water he took from his water bottle, he rested his head against the wall's corner, dreading his presence here, to an extent.

Ferro saw the firebender make a dash toward him. He had been waiting for just such a situation: nothing between them, just him and the enemy. Ferro spun in a circle, then brought his arm forward, making a twisting motion with his hand formed like a cone. Air curled around his arm and come together at a point, launching forward in a spear shape at speeds almost too fast to follow. The air lance, as Ferro liked to call it. A highly offensive move. No wonder the monks had never figured it out. It halved the distance between them in less than a second. . .

Tsubaki sees Ferro make a move, *its coming* the instant Ferro's arm is fully extended, Tsubaki side steps just as the air cuts him on his left cheek *! this guy....* Tsubaki was now less than a few lunges away, and stops, Ferro is close to the edge, *I'll make my stand here*. Readying himself he observes the airbender.

A firebender stopped his own charge? Interesting. . . What is he planning? Well, it wouldn't matter with this next move. Ferro performed his spinning motion and fired off another air lance. This one was different, though. Ferro was waiting for Tsubaki to sidestep, then he would explode the air lance right near him.

*Tch this is getting annoying* Tsubaki starts charging towards the airbender

((sorry research project))

As Tsubaki dodged and ran past the air lance, the lance exploded behind him, launching him toward Ferro. Ferro did a backflip over the flying firebender, administered a quick kick, and finally let loose with a blast of wind, knocking his opponent at high speed toward the wall of the arena.

(I don't think Okami will be around to run this anymore.)

((yeah you're right, what should we do?))

The explosion took him off guard *what!?* Then as he got sent towards the wall, Tsubaki turned himself around and firebended backwards to slow his approach, then kicked off of the wall and flew towards Ferro using firebending, and before Ferro landed, Tsubaki tackled him to the ground pinning his arms

(Make another one?)

(same topic? or different story altogether?)

(We could just use this one.)

Ferro was surprised when Tsubaki tackled him, and annoyed when his arms were pinned. But there was still an easy way to get out of this. Ferro inhaled deeply, then blew out a long, sustained blast, launching the firebender off of him. Ferro did a quick backflip, landed on his feet, and sent an air slash at his airborne opponent.

(I guess that means new leader, right?)

(It does. We need somebody who will keep the story going at a good clip.)
