Okay, who thought that leveling through fetch quests was a good idea(LRFFXIII)?

Posted

At first ,I thought that leveling through finishing side quests was ok,until it started to get on my nerves on the worst way possible.

First off, most of the side quests if not all,are fetch and delivery quests, and they get repetitive and boring really really fast, problem is,not only do you have to do the quests if you don't wanna spend like an hour on a boss on Normal Mode, but some of those side quests takes forever to finish if only because of how poorly some of them mapped in the game, and even when you're using chronostatis, you're gonna waste a lot of the clock's time to finish some of them as some people you need will only pop up at a specific time in the day

Second of all, that makes combat and random encounters completely and absolutely pointless, aside from mandatory boss fights, you'll never need to fight any enemy you encounter unless you want to fill your EP points so you can use EP abilities. All experience points that you're gonna get in this game is only from side quests and main boss battles.

And before you say you don't need to do a lot of sidequests, maybe you'd be right, but by doing so(ignoring sidequests) that will cause you to spend  around 30 minutes to an hour fighting one boss.f***ing Noel, the first boss in the game, takes FOREVER to beat even though I finished almost 4 or 5 side quests before fighting him, resulting me into resorting to a strategy that made the battle so repetitive and not fun just to beat that tedious 20 minutes boss battle.

That made me later go to the Wildlands,do a couple of quests there, ignore Caius until a later point in the game and decided to head to the Dead Dunes(the only area that was actually fun so far)So I'd had more EXP before fighting the boss of that area that The Order will summon to fight you and Fang with.....and guess what?It still takes forever to kill, and the fact that you have a very very very very limited inventory than any FF game before that and you can only store few potionsX-Potions and Phoenix Downs, makes the whole thing even more boring

I just screamed : FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE LET ME GRIND NORMALLY!!!I wanted experience so badly I just couldn't fathom the thought of doing delivery boy quests anymore to get EXP again, like really I won't mind fighting a hundred Behemoths at once if it meant I can get actual EXP that doesn't revolve around finding a toy for a girl or finding someone's girlfriend.

Side quests are supposed to be 100% optional and that you can choose to either do them or ignore them if you want to,sure you get a nice loot if you do them but they're not required to beat the game.

Here, get ready to be punished against bosses that aren't really that hard only because you didn't choose to be the goody two shoes instead of focusing on...y'know...SAVING EVERYBODY'S ASS!!!!!

As dump the crystarium was,at least it felt like most RPGs leveling up systems

I can't believe that I actually agreed with DSP(A guy I really hate) on something

Dude I swear to God if the ending wasn't good I'm gonna take Toriyama and.....................

I didn't ignore all of them,I fought the ones that are on the way and I didn't go out of my way to battle them unless I grind for EP points.

And even if I fought them and got abilites, those abilities are still gonna be weak as I am until I do some sidequests to level myself up

They're called "side"quests for a reason,they should've been optional not semi mandatory

You can't please everybody...Someone's gonna complain no matter what. Sounds unappreciative to me, but whatever...it happens.

This si a good idea actally IMO, but somthing I hate in  this game that every good system here comes with a bad  thing that makes it bad.

The bad thing in this case, is that most of the sidequest are really boring.

OH COME ON FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!

Should I kiss Square's ass and praise them to no end when they do something wrong???

Should I be a blind fanboy?

The idea itself isn't bad,but the execution is really poor because of the nature of the side quests and how they're designed

it sounds good on paper but it's execution is bad

Sidequests should've never been mandatory for the main character to level up,and even if we thought about it it sounds dumb. How does Lightning gain HP and strengthen her muscles by giving a kid his ball back??

Exactly, what they were trying to implement sounds good,it's the poor execution that made it bad

As Savior, her goal is to rescue as many souls as possible. They're side quests because they dun affect the main story, but saving souls can easily boost her powers. It's rewarding, and it follows the rules Lightning should move along with. It wasn't poorly executed in that sense. Then again, i'm one to enjoy the game for what it is, rather than point out flaws that dun break the game.

Saving souls doesn't equal grinding,I don't mind sidequests giving me great loots like a powerful weapon or a strong spell or even an item, but when my leveling up is capped by the number of side quests in the game that makes grinding for bosses like Snow and Caius(who by the way are insanely powerful) tedious and boring because all I'm doing is running in circles being a delivery boy instead of being the freakin Savior

And again,I wouldn't mind that system had the sidequests been varied instead of just delivery and finding people, what happened to extra dungeons that even previous XIII games had and every FF game before this had(like the Sylph Cave and Feymarch in FF4).

I don't point out flaws just for the sake of pointing flaws,I'm really really really trying to enjoy this game, the Dead Dunes and the battle with Caius were fun but everything else is executed poorly that it takes away from the experience no matter how hard I try to ignore the issue.

That might doesn't break the game for you.but when a boss takes FOREVER to kill just because you didn't finish a side quest or two ,then it's a stupid design choice.

Why couldn't they have both options?Get experience from both enemies and sidequests with Sidequests having their own bonus that isn't in enemy grinding

Has everyone really had trouble with bosses and whatnot? It takes like 3-4 minutes on every boss for me. Even Caius had been finished off in a short amount of time on my first go. All it takes is preparation before the battle. New Game + is already gonna be easy with the help of Lightning's Army of One EP.

I didn't have troubles if you mean the boss's difficulty,I meant trouble because the bosses takes FOREVER to kill with either them having ton of HP or me doing not much damage despite equipping powerful schematas and weapons and boosting my spells in the sorcery shops and using their weaknesses!!

And why should I just fail and do New Game+ like some people here did??I don't wanna replay the same stuff all over again
