Okay, who thought that leveling through fetch quests was a good idea(LRFFXIII)?

Posted

At first ,I thought that leveling through finishing side quests was ok,until it started to get on my nerves on the worst way possible.

First off, most of the side quests if not all,are fetch and delivery quests, and they get repetitive and boring really really fast, problem is,not only do you have to do the quests if you don't wanna spend like an hour on a boss on Normal Mode, but some of those side quests takes forever to finish if only because of how poorly some of them mapped in the game, and even when you're using chronostatis, you're gonna waste a lot of the clock's time to finish some of them as some people you need will only pop up at a specific time in the day

Second of all, that makes combat and random encounters completely and absolutely pointless, aside from mandatory boss fights, you'll never need to fight any enemy you encounter unless you want to fill your EP points so you can use EP abilities. All experience points that you're gonna get in this game is only from side quests and main boss battles.

And before you say you don't need to do a lot of sidequests, maybe you'd be right, but by doing so(ignoring sidequests) that will cause you to spend  around 30 minutes to an hour fighting one boss.f***ing Noel, the first boss in the game, takes FOREVER to beat even though I finished almost 4 or 5 side quests before fighting him, resulting me into resorting to a strategy that made the battle so repetitive and not fun just to beat that tedious 20 minutes boss battle.

That made me later go to the Wildlands,do a couple of quests there, ignore Caius until a later point in the game and decided to head to the Dead Dunes(the only area that was actually fun so far)So I'd had more EXP before fighting the boss of that area that The Order will summon to fight you and Fang with.....and guess what?It still takes forever to kill, and the fact that you have a very very very very limited inventory than any FF game before that and you can only store few potionsX-Potions and Phoenix Downs, makes the whole thing even more boring

I just screamed : FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE LET ME GRIND NORMALLY!!!I wanted experience so badly I just couldn't fathom the thought of doing delivery boy quests anymore to get EXP again, like really I won't mind fighting a hundred Behemoths at once if it meant I can get actual EXP that doesn't revolve around finding a toy for a girl or finding someone's girlfriend.

Side quests are supposed to be 100% optional and that you can choose to either do them or ignore them if you want to,sure you get a nice loot if you do them but they're not required to beat the game.

Here, get ready to be punished against bosses that aren't really that hard only because you didn't choose to be the goody two shoes instead of focusing on...y'know...SAVING EVERYBODY'S ASS!!!!!

As dump the crystarium was,at least it felt like most RPGs leveling up systems

I can't believe that I actually agreed with DSP(A guy I really hate) on something

Dude I swear to God if the ending wasn't good I'm gonna take Toriyama and.....................

I agree that the sidequests get annoying sometimes, and I feel like the whole "no level-ups from battle" deal is a much worse concept than the time limit. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy this game, but I agree with you there.

So wait, have you beaten the game yet? If not, let me just tell you to keep plowing through the side-quests, no matter how annoying they get. the final boss is easily one of the most difficult final bosses I've fought, and you do not want to go into that fight without enough stat boosts under your belt.

Helping people and getting stronger is a much better system than fighting an endless horde of re-spawning enemies in my opinion

So long as there's no doomsday clock I would be all for it in future games made by them

I admit that it does get annoying, but some of them give really good rewards, plus who honestly doesnt do sidequests in an rpg? Better than XIII's concept of sidequests whichall came at you in ch. 11 and all they were all just killing enemies.

PLus, its better than spending HOURs ANd HOURS fighting the same boss to level up, this is quicker, albeit a little more annoying at times.

If you want better stats, you dont have to just do sidequests. You can look online and find some pretty good schema setups to help strengthen lightning. SOldier of peace and martial monk and really goodfor dealing damage(thanks to the auto abilities they give u tht give you exclusive moves like artemis arrows and whirlwind kick.

Still, that doesn't make the game fun!!I know I need to go through this shit just to be competent against the Final boss, whom I might just ashame myself and beat him on easy

I'm halfway through the game and the only fun I had with it so far is in the Dead Dunes where it actually felt like a FF game

And the story is unbelievably stupid

There are tons of ways to ease grinding from enemies

and BTW,the time you spend on those quests is ten times longer than what you'll spend on fighting enemies

No this isn't quicker

There are enemies in other FF games that can give you a ton of experience in waaaaaaaaaaaay less time than this game's sidequests

You'll find out as soon as I write my review about the game

I wouldve liked this comment, but darn quota. xD

The director. I agree, I'd prefer a leveling system, but oh well I still enjoyed it.

You'll find out as soon as I write my review about the game

I'm assuming it's gonna be a pretty negative review?

I'm looking at the postive side on this, I'm not a side quest kind of guy, so maybe this will get me into the whole Side Quest things in games.

Those are currently my impressions, not the full review.

The full review might change,it can be positive or negative depending on the ending and how the last hours of the game feel for me

ِAlso, that would've been fine had the side quests been fun and varied

But instead they're repetitive, boring and waste a lot of your in-game time even with using Chronostatis

All you do in those side quests is just running in circles

I rather draw spells and junction like an asshole in FF8,I'd rather succumb myself to the stupidity of the crystarium than leveling up in LRFFXIII

Technically it's not even leveling up.

I enjoyed a lot of the side quests (I completed all but four of them) although the cat one was very creepy.

I kinda miss grinding, but that's just me since I usually grind in every RPG a ton before the 1st boss fight xD

I actually enjoyed every last one I've done. It's not so bad. It definitely fills the time left before the end game better than fighting endless hordes of boring monsters.

Then what is it?You can't level up Lightning unless you do sidequests, the concept of grinding(something that existed in every single RPG in existence except this game) is absent here

And with that new Super boss around that has the same amount of HP as Yiazmat from XII(50+ million HP)That means you gotta beat aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall those boring fetch quests if you want to stand a chance.

Who in the world thought that this is a good way to level up?

It has more than Yiazmat in it's ultimate form, the most ever!

Until you reach those quests where you need to wait for someone to pop up during a specific time of the day

Also, fighting hordes of monsters takes waaaaay less time than running around in circles being the delivery boy for hours on end

And again, those side quests are so repetitive and there are barely any variety in them

By 2 million HP yeah, but at least in 12 the game allows you to grind normally for Yiazmat.

Here, you have to run back and forth back and forth back and forth for hours delivering stuff to people and telling people to meet each other

The time you take in 12 or any FF game for that matter to reach level 99 is waay less than the time you need to finish sidequests in this game

Yes, those side quests are quite annoying, but I still managed to complete all of them before day 10.

Even if you managed to complete them before Day 10,that doesn't make them fun or a good way to level up Lightning

Still that doesn't make up for the 95% of boredom the other quests will invoke on you

I already took care of them without a problem. Rewards are great for them. I got Purple Lightning from said quests, and I've been using that garb ever since then.

You still gotta grind for materials and abilities, otherwise, your new game + playthrough's gonna be tough and you won't have any good abilities because you left monsters alone.

I didn't ignore all of them,I fought the ones that are on the way and I didn't go out of my way to battle them unless I grind for EP points.

And even if I fought them and got abilites, those abilities are still gonna be weak as I am until I do some sidequests to level myself up

They're called "side"quests for a reason,they should've been optional not semi mandatory
