Kitase & Toriyama's response to the possibility of an "X-3" in 2003

Posted
IGN: So is this it for the FINAL FANTASY X universe? Or is it possible that we'll see a third FFX? After all, there were rumors early on of a Rikku story in addition to a Yuna story when FFX-2 was first being talked about.

Kitase: There is a sequel episode called "Last Mission" in FFX2 International + Last Mission, which is scheduled for release in Japan in early 2004. We plan to complete the FFX story with that for now. Unfortunately, the release of Last Mission in North America is undecided.

Toriyama: The story about a "Rikku version" was just a rumor during development and it was never in the works. Right now I want to work on a completely new game so there is no "FFX-3" but I'm very attached to the FFX world and its characters. After some time, we may want to see Yuna and her friends, just to see how they are doing… [laughs]

Thanks to IGN.
