In the zeldawiki it has a short article explaining why toon link is in the picture. I guess toon Link was there when the game is very early in development.

Actually Toon Link was only there during early development as they tried to work with the camera angles and whatnot. This was extremely early on.

yeah, but I guess it failed because in the final version of the game you cannot change the camera angle. You can change the way the camera is looking at with the d-pad though.
